eddo36 16 Posted May 2, 2015 A new helmet gives pilots of the F-35 fighter jet the ability to see the ground in all directions.
x3kj 1247 Posted May 2, 2015 For that price they should think about a seperate ejection system just for the helmet, in case the pilot won't make it anymore :D
nodunit 397 Posted May 4, 2015 Overpriced aircraft gets more redundant features. Seriously what is wrong with a single FLIR camera? I can understand that helicopter pilots use these things because of the height they fly, land, and doubly so in that attack helicopters require a lot of "hands on" but why an aircraft that is supposed to be designed as long range fighter that flies tens of thousands of feet in the air? Maybe its the air force trying to shove the idea that "Oh hey the pilot can see the ground, it could do very well as a replacement to the A-10 because it would see better yes?" That actually sounds like a feasible explanation :D Besides its increases the unit cost which makes some people and their pockets happier.

I can tell you in 10 years this "redundant" technology will be copied by China and Russia. Totally because of "pockets".
