Holstering pistols

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or does the holstering of pistols in OFP get annoying?? The soldiesr holster them like they are rifels, why do they not just not stick them in a holster or their pants? tounge.gif Is there any way to make them holster the pistols like you would really holster a pistol? Being able to run with you pistol not in your hand would be nice..................

I used search and found nothing on this.

Well, OFP engine wasn't originally built with pistol in mind, I think the job they did with the pistols in OFP:R was pretty good, all things considered.

There has been talk at NatoSoldier.com that they have found a way to edit animations, so maybe they can make a smoother holstering action.

Yes BIS did a good job with the pistols, now we just need that holstering action to make it even better. biggrin.gif

I personally think that Bohemia Interactive Studios made a step forward by making Operation Flashpoint a rifle-only game, and they took a step back by including them. Pistols have almost no place on the battlefield. And do you really use them all that often, besides for the fun of it?

Not the old "are pistols any use in OFP" argument again. Of course they are. I'm not even going into it again. All I will say is that OFP is a realistic war simulator, and armies use pistols IRL.

First, I did not realize that this was an oft-pointed out subject. I would not have brought it up if I had seen it before.

Secondly, they may not be useless and they may not be unrealistic, but they do not quite belong in Operation Flashpoint. The usage of pistols in real life infantry (that's the key word here) combat is minimal. I don't see that it adds anything to the game. In fact, I feel that it detracts by taking a small step away from Operation Flashpoint and toward something like Counterstrike (although that seems a little harsh, that is the direction the step takes, however small). There is no need to get hostile about it; I am concerned with what I see in Resistance. Resistance loses some of what makes it original when it tries to go for the more urban environment, and pistols are part of that, I think.

Every new "IRL feature" is good for OFP. Besides pistols are good for cutscenes, they are fun (yesterday we were having competition with Kegetys' revelvors in MP, Western style I mean tounge.gif), pistols are good if you want to simulate high ranking officers on the field etc...

Next weapon class that would be included some day should be artillery/infantry mortar.

Sorry Kermit, didn't mean to come across as hostile, just I've been invovled in so many of these discussions before.

You make some good points, but I personally feels pistols add to, rather than detract from, OFP.

As a bonus, looks like the new patch is going to make the pistols a bit more realistic too:

------------

* Hand guns have no tracers now.

* Hand guns are more inaccurate to longer distances.

* Hand gun types are more different now (Tokarev is the strongest but the most inacurate, Glock is the most accurate, etc.)

* Some new sounds added.

* Some better animations used<span id='postcolor'>

Again, I apologize. I usually try to refrain from putting in my oar when everything has been discussed to death and said a thousand times already.

Maybe they should add knives now.

I think knives would be a great idea. Perfect for those stealth missions when you need to sneak behind a soldier and cut his throat or stab him to death. Nice and quiet.

I wouldn't like it. Because then people would use them in general combat and it would be more like any other FPS.

In real war you never have to use knifes!

There are silenced weapons, every special forces in the world has silenced weapons!

Please this is not an arcade game sad.gif

In addition, you would never get close enough the enemy to use the knife before he puts a bullet in your head, except in a close quarter combat which is so rare in OFP that it would be useless to implement knives.

NICE ?

i don't want my battle suit being soiled by other people's blood when it's not necessary .. a silenced gun would do the job ...

Cmon, it wouln't be like that and all arcady. Remember, the physics in OPF are realistic, so if it wouln't work in real life, it prolly wouln't work in OPF.

I mean you would have to be damn good to sneak up on an enemy to stab him.

You wouln't be able to just run around slashing people. You would get shot too quick.

actually i came very close to a spetsnaz during a mission where i had to arrest an assasin. it was very easy. i was crawling very slowly behind him and i even could stab him with a knive if i had one. biggrin.gif

but you're right. such situations are very rare. confused.gif

See what I mean? It would be useful to have one in your arsenal just in case.

You are undetected in enemy territory, you see an opportunity, you slip out your knife and take out the enemy quietly.

Cmon people, let us have a knife!

I don't like the idea of knifes.

Special forces are the only people that would possibly use them, and they'd probably shoot first. (but I don't know, I'm not special forces)

I've been to the army. Call me a chicken but I would never resort to a knife (which we didn't have) when I have my trusty old RK.62 assault rifle at my disposal, even if it means giving out my position to the enemy. If I should keep quiet, I wouldn't kill the enemy.

No, black-ops use silenced weapons wink.gif

Only Clint Eastwood in "Where Eagles Dare (1968)" can use a knife as effortlessly as we can use a toothbrush. tounge.gif

the only knives I'd ever accept in this game would be ones that are attached firmly to the end of your rifle... your bayonet! smile.gif
