MP fix, aspect ratios and unification across the board on Steam and non-Steam versions.

Not much to ask - too good to be true :d:

I agree with multi-core, MP fix (redirecting Steam version to Powerserver), better memory management, aspect ratio patch. It's something modders can't fix (legally) and it would improve the game's performance a lot. Too often I get a 'out of memory' error and it's also not possible to have 5000 m view distance on most bigger/more detailed islands without heavy slowdown or bigger battles with non-spawning AI.

Well, first example of community-powered patch was made (see pictures thread). It's still pretty buggy but it has some impressive features like 3D sights, join in progress, magazine costumization and some other things. If this will be continued we could eventually see some of the feats previously unimaginable. As for how to obtain it, do some research. It's a 100% unofficial update.

I can't believe it's been 15 years since the release of Operation Flashpoint making me 16 at the time!

And what a great game/sim it was - and still is.

No nonsense, no regenerating health or other sillyness - just a gunshot straight to head from psychic, aimbot AI and the You are dead screen complete with an interesting bit of trivia!

Who dares forget the infamous mission After Montignac ? And Resistance has such a brilliant campaign - I still don't think it's been bettered by the technically superior modern sequels.

Memorable musical score too! It really was the complete package.

Like most/all of you I already had OFP on DVD as well as (the generally disappointing) ArmA Gold

I couldn't resist the 15% sale getting ArmA 2 Complete & ArmA 3 despite my reservations of being tied to STEAM.

Bit of a disappointment to see ArmA 2 removed from GoG some time ago. I tend to favour physical goods or the next best thing.

It looks like Bohemia have listened to what's been posted and have at least tried to add aspect ratio support - mixed reports on whether it's working though?

In all honesty the game code is so old that's it doubtful we'll ever see multi-core improvements - it would've been Pentium 4 vs Athlon back then.

It wouldn't surprise me if they've forgotten how sections of the old code/engine work entirely  :D

Still I definitely want to add vocal support to any effort to keep these classics working without black screens or other oddities.

A faithful remake on the ArmA 3 engine would be very welcome as well.

Grabbed the Bestsellers / GOTY version all patched up on 3 CD's in a DVD jewel case. £5 / £10 ? Can't remember. Bargain of the year!

Always thought it was bit of a shame that they split with Codemasters - they brought us some good games like SHoWW2 (Men of War prequel)

ArmA Gold felt very much like a prototype of better things to come.

ArmA Gold felt very much like a prototype of better things to come.

Ehhhh... not quite:

More than ever Bohemia needed to finish a game. Mistakes had to be learned from. This time there was no space for heady ambition. Bohemia recycled the streamlined Operation Flashpoint: Elite engine and set about making Armed Assault, which would become Arma in order not to clash with a US game called Armored Assault. "In the company, everyone hated the name," Å panel reveals, but it was late in development so he steamrolled it through. It means "war" in Latin anyway, he shrugs, so it's not that bad, although Germans and Russians apparently can't deal with a title that isn't an English word, so still refer to Arma 3 as Armed Assault 3.

Bohemia turned down a worldwide publishing deal for the game, keen to remain independent and its own boss. Another lesson learned. The studio decided to try self-publishing through its own digital store and sign regional distribution deals where necessary. In November 2006 the game was ready, and it launched in pioneering early access form - an approach it has used ever since (and arguably did with Operation Flashpoint 1). When Arma arrived in the UK a few months later we heralded it as "an essential purchase for anyone interested in war simulation or tired of the contrived drama that fills mainstream military shooters". It sold enough to keep Bohemia afloat, and business was going in the right direction, finally.

Ehhhh... not quite:

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at? I was only comparing their games not Bohemia's situation overall.

Do you not believe that Flashpoint is their best game?

Do you believe that ArmA 1 was as good as Flashpoint on release?

Or that there's been no major improvements since Flashpoint?

ArmA 1 feels a bit thrown together, a bit generic. The missions have a basic, serviceable story holding them together. The odd scenario is interesting but the grunts are all nameless and forgettable. They added in what was meant to be a dynamic campaign but I never saw any major changes take place depending on mission chosen/outcome - nothing as good as Resistance.

ArmA 2 feels more solid now but the engine feels a bit dated, a bit sluggish. The campaign feels a bit experimental - they've tried a few ideas like free-roaming rather than on-rails missions but it's hit and miss.

ArmA 3 looks gorgeous and runs really well on the same hardware. The campaign seems to be a mix of ideas from Arma 1 & 2 with a bit of Resistance thrown in too.

When I look at all the games I can see incremental improvements in different areas but I'd rather they get back to writing a campaign that measures up to brilliance of Flashpoint.

It doesn't work at all and lack of any information/feedback thread on official forums makes me wonder if this update is not just some bored dev with access to Steam database. :P

Some particular Irishman got you covered.

Just seeing ArmA less as a prototype and more a 'paying the bills' project.

That's because we don't have the documented source code and because there are no pro programmers taking a look at the code.

Replacing the GameSpy master server ip with something like Notepad++ is no problem, but trying anything else is just shooting in the dark.

I also applaud the decision to make a update for the game but I also hope something is done in regards to Windows 10 issues and in-game server browser too (that second issue is easy to fix if they re-direct the game to PFC master server).

And yes, we all here are well aware that ArmA 1-3 are technically superior, but OFP had the "soul".

Not gonna happen, and TBH that would be a pretty shitty solution (nobody knows when community master server will die, not even members of the community).

I could even live with switching to Steam (afterall it's now Bohemia's platform of choice), but I don't see it happening at all - Bohemians are completely not interested in this. CWA is now just a cheap interactive ad for A3.
