How big could you actually make a Arma 3 island?

Well simple question how big could you actually make a Arma 3 map?

Second question what would be the biggest map playable by a MP server?

You can make the map however big you want, but the factor you have to take into account is the number of element objects (grass, trees, buildings, etc) that are on the map, because a 500km by 500km empty map might have the chance of rendering while if that was full of all the aforementioned elements could be cause of issues.

To the second thing, that falls into the same category, but I don't know exactly what the limit is, but there is really only one way to find out :p.

I thought the streaming terrain feature BIS implemented in ArmA 1 solved that? Anyone knows the map limit for sure?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. I found this video for Arma 2:

but that clearly lacks any real trees or clutter, let alone objects.

The bigger the map more detail you'll sacrifice in actual map objects. And then there's the jitter-bug that happens on big maps the further away you get.

Yea my main point was you could create some big ass map at like 500km by 500km (I'm exaggerating a bit, of course), and have nothing on it, and it might do just fine, but as soon as you start adding in all the finer details is where it gets messy. So technically speaking you can make a huge map, it just won't look really pretty :p.

if its for single player pretty big

If its for MP use don't go as big as ALTIS.

Somewhere around Chenarus is as big as you want to take it otherwise a lot of AI on the map will give you poor fps for larger Player missions
