silentghoust 132 Posted August 17, 2014 One thing I heard a lot about Arma 3. Is the Futristic was to OP. Every vehicle having thermals, every AT having lock on, ect, ect. Many of the bigger communities seem to shy away from the use of these vehicles in favor of more Infantry, or FIA vs FIA style play. So I never really got into multiplayer to much, simply happy with my missions I created for SP. So booting it up I didn't know what to expect. This my first time doing any real PvP on arma 3. Besides silly Altis life stuff that doesn't really count. First thing I noticed is I was the scope of it was far larger then Arma 2. Logistics was far more important then in Arma 2, fuel and ammo were constant demand and keeping a logistics convoy nearby was a must to consistently advance. Another thing I realized is the need to pack for the right situation. I almost never wore heavy gear like plate carriers or helmets unless I planned to be transported, or expected to stay around for a lot of action. I found myself at least going between 2-3 different load outs depending on the situation of the match. When the combat finally happened, I honestly found it quiet even. Urban areas were vehicle death traps, and so most vehicles usually waited for infantry support or hoped they could catch some infantry out in the open. If I saw a vehicle, there was usually some kind of concealment, and having thermal on at all times simply screwed with your navigation. Not to mention you couldn't really see anything past 1k. AA and ATGm style missiles still would hit you without you even knowing what it was that killed you. For a selection of weapons and assets that I heard people say, "Sniper rifles on vehicles" I really never found any of that. Any situation I ran into, for example a squad being wiped out on a hilltop by a Strider, never felt any different then a Bmp-2 catching a squad on a hills. Despite what I read and my expectation, I found this future warfare, to be quiet enjoyable and now probably my most favorite thing to do right now.
kilroy the nerd 14 Posted August 19, 2014 Well, one issue. I believe thermals on vehicles can actually be disabled with scripting. Also, RPG-42 doesn't have lock on, though otherwise that's correct. Otherwise, this is a really interesting piece. I never really thought of logistics in Arma besides landing back at base in my aircraft to rearm, and continuing on my way. I see BI's new system is working as intended, when you say you didn't wear helmets and platecarriers. I usually just try to counter it by taking breaks, but it doesn't always work. My only real problems with Arma 3 are the relentless shake that I can't do anything about (well, not without weapon resting mods), damage, and the lack of soft skinned military vehicles. And even then, the MRAPs can be easily penetrated with a .50, and the .408 Cheetah from the M200 sniper rifle can penetrate the windows if I remember right. I still can't understand the fuss over it being futuristic. Even if it was, what if I told you US riflemen didn't use SCARs as seen in OA? Would your immersion be ruined then? Nevermind that almost everything but the Mi-48 exists in real life. The other thing I took away from this? I need to play more Warfare. This was like a subtle, effective ad for Warfare. Seriously though, I hope you get more findings like this. If you were a journalist doing editorial pieces, I'd definitely try to find more of your stuff. aimerleg 1 Posted August 19, 2014 Hmm, what server was this on? I have a weird problem [just recently] that I have to wait forever for internet servers to load, and they sometimes load ones I can't access and not all of them. [E.g I had to search "Warfare" manually and only got 3 servers.] Anyway, this seems great. I personally look down upon on the "balance" approach to Arma 3, last time I checked the slammer had a 6.5mm. Like, really? And the names could be real... Ifrit and Hunter have the same HMG, cant tell faction apart at distance when all I can see is that. But that's fine, I forgive it. Though I prefer arma 2 for content. But, I said all this to say that I agree with you, the fact it does not seem different RPG 7 destroying chopper, or the new RPG [Which I forgot it's full name] Anyway.... I think the mobile HQ's on most warfares kinda break the immersion, you can just teleport to them. But I agree, I never did go heavy unless I have a specific role [MG] as the fatigue would lead to me getting killed.

Funny you should ask, I use to write for a small gaming website. But my grammar is really bad, so I probably could never go professional :(. As for the server I play on I have been playing on this one http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?170597-Warfare-CTI-PERF-Seattle-WA-www-ofps-net I suggest for best introduction experience to watch the videos, and refer to the help menu within the server. My first mistake was apparently "selling" gear, is only used in a sense of a discount for your next purchase, and does not give you extra money. Rather this is a glitch idk, but i found myself in my undies the first time. But once you understand how money is attained, and how the usual flow of the warfare goes. You find yourself right at home.

The selling of gear is engineered that way to prevent players from taking advantage of any "duping" and increasing their cash amount. Only way to get cash is to kill/destroy the enemy, capture towns (best way), salvage vehicle wrecks, obtain cash every minute (based on how many towns your team owns), or request money from your fellow players. A note on the cash/min received as a team. The Commander has full control of the tax rate and it's entirely up to him/her how to manage it. This is done because the CO has to spend vast amounts of money on team "upgrades" which benefit everyone and is responsible for building factories (which spawn vehicles) and building base defenses. Since the Commander often sets the income/min tax at 100% (meaning he's taking it all) it is often on him to ensure he distributes that wealth back to the players on the team, so don't be shy to ask the commander for a little cash. Glad you found us, we're always glad to have mature gamers on the server. If you have any questions let me know.
