Change Altis Map Size

Do you think this is a good idea?

  1. 1. Do you think this is a good idea?

So I have been doing a bunch of research as well as attempting to toy with the map_altis addon configuration files / etc to create what I want but I have become unsuccessful every time. Before I continue I was more or less coming here to see if this is possible and if so maybe someone can point me in the correct direction.

I am basically attempting to map the mapsize of Altis larger.

Below is a example image.

1) Original Altis

2) What I am trying to do

Now what are the reasons I am trying to attempt this?

1. So air operations are more realistic and more fun.

2. Require the use of mid air refueling.

3. So that the USS Nimitz / etc can be placed far out in the mission editor and can be navigated to.

4. Use your imagination ha.

So is this possible with Altis? If not are there any other maps that are surrounded by water this would be possible to do the same idea too?

Huge thanks in advance Arma 3 community!!!

Best Regards!

I thought it was just endless ocean in all directions. I've flown out before. Can't find an end.

AFAIK you can't change map size, also you have generic water in all directions, but I don't know whether this is scripting friendly.

Much easier would be 100x100km map with flat altis and stratis without objects.

It would be great if the map was that big, and the mission could specify a crop region position/size, with the default being what we see currently.

But I'd guess this would require some reworking of some very deep engine functions.

You can setPos your carrier as far out in any direction you chose, though as mentioned already some scripts may not work as expected when working outside the natural bounds of the terrain. But nothing is stopping you from trying.

I think the OP is more concerned with actually being able to view the extra space on the map, so he can perhaps add markers and such.

I'm afraid this would require fundamental changes to Altis itself which simply isn't possible...

That's too bad.

It would be kind of cool if there was a larger but lower res map specifically for flying purposes

Do Gnat or PMC allow the porting of their oversized terrains to Arma 3?

Like this maybe...?

(Totally random AI wandering - a straight grab of the in-game cutscene... ;) )

@Bushlurker: looks nice, can you show us the overall map/layer ?

@on topic: is it even possible to export the source files of altis ?

from Snakeman on Skype:

I dont allow them to be ported... because they are my babies. if there is genuine need for them, I can port them myself.
