Why is there an @ before some addons?

Recommended Posts

I have gotten all my mods installed and when I go to the expansions list some of my mods have the @ before their name and some don't. Is there a reason for this? Are they loaded in the wrong order or something? For arma 3 Thank you.

It helps distinguish them from the vanilla ArmA 3 folders, and keeps them all nicely together. My A3 folder @ content looks like this:

@_AI

@_Im

@_Is

@_So

@_Un

@_We

@bCombat

@CBA_A3

I also use an underscore to separate the folders that I manage myself.

...if there's another reason, please, pipe up.

Thank you for the reply,,Some of my community made addons do not have the @. TMR doesn't and CBA and a couple others but some of the others like nvg and the rails and attachment addon do.

That's because some do it right and some don't.

There's a mod.cpp file in those particular mods which lets them add a "name =" entry to the Expansions menu. Those without a mod.cpp just use the folder name, and so if the folder name starts with @, so does the mod name in the Expansions menu.

The mod.cpp file also allows a website and other details to be specified.

Why not just create a single "Mods" folder, and put mod folders within that?

eg: Arma3/mods/CBA

I believe this may not have been originally possible.

I'm a mbr of the "pro cmd line 255+ chars team." :p Setting a custom mod location takes up valuable chars I can't afford.

TBH I'm just lazy.

I think it's just a community thing. Some group started it and anyone new joining just learned to add @ to there mod name. That's my 2 Cent's
