Fixed a mod - where to next?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I've fixed a mod with that the developer has stopped developing, a pretty important fix. I was just wodnering where to from here? Am I allowed to just release this, or do I need to follow some form of protocol to do so? I've emailed a moderator however received no reply as yet (I'm impatient lol), just wondering who I'd talk to about getting that published for everyone to be able to use, without stepping on anyones toes?

Cheers!

The original author, if they don't get back to you idk. Releasing without permission after that point is a grey line that I'm sure a lot will have much to say about

The only issue with that is that this particular mod author, while still appearing active in some of the forums, has made it so no one can private message him. I can see why you'd do that considering its popularity, however it's a bit annoying not being able to contact them about this as I'm sure they'd love to know.

Well maybe you could elaborate a bit more instead of being so secretive and the person in question will see the appropriately named thread, or others with a means of contact may be able to help......but there are a lot of mods out there that fit the description above, narrow it down a bit.

Drunkenjawa, Aplion stated that his mods are now open source:

Exclamation Aplion is out ... (open A2 imports content)

Hi guys,

as I'm modding since the beggining of ArmA 1 era, I've decided to take a long brake.

In fact I'm very disappointed by the way BIS is working on ArmA 3 as, from my point of view, they only seem to be caring about minor bugs fixing, doing almost nothing to improve game's main engine, performance and AI behavior (which are the most serious issues IMHO).

Anyway this post doesn't made on purpose to be against BIS but to inform all of you about my current status and who knows at the future if some serious improvements will be done, I'll be back on business.

Based on that, I thought that it will be better to freely give to the community all my ArmA 2 imports unbinarized, so anyone wants to be able to continue and improve my so far work on that subject. After all, these models are BIS property.

So here you are ...

ArmA2 US Helis Unbinarized : http://www.mediafire.com/download/ci...is_UNBINED.rar

ArmA2 HMMWVs Unbinarized : http://www.mediafire.com/download/0w...WV_UNBINED.rar

ArmA2 UAZs Unbinarized : http://www.mediafire.com/download/px...ed_UNBINED.rar

ArmA2 UK vehicles Unbinarized : http://www.mediafire.com/download/p1...ed_UNBINED.rar

Note 1 : these files are given "as is" and no further help will be provided by my side.

Note 2 : anyone wants to make changes on these files, is free to proceed at will.

No mod will punish you for discussing if you could release or not a fix for HAFM jets =)
