Aculaud 0 Posted July 21, 2002 I didnt want to put this in 'Constructive criticism', because there would have been no way to tell people it was a spoiler before they saw it, so i'm putting it here. I dont think killing Victor Troska makes any sense. If you recall, he was narrating for over the first half of the campeign. So how can he narrate if hes dead? They never said anything about him keeping memoirs as it happened, and even if that was the case, it was his voice behind the text, as if to say he was reading it to the player. Maybe one possibility would have been him just bringing the player up to speed on everything, and then about half way through, it picks up from whats currently happening? Anyone else confused? Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted July 21, 2002 Yea that was totally uncalled for and was a big dissapointment to me.
Aculaud 0 Posted July 21, 2002 I dont know that i'm disappointed, it just doesnt make much sense to me. I mean, as i said, how can he narrate if hes dead?
Harnu 0 Posted July 21, 2002 It's like a "okay, how did I get here" kind of thing. He finds himself dead, (Maybe still dying) on the field. He may just be thinking back?

Harnu 0 Posted July 21, 2002 Maybe it hit just under his brain... like the eyes. Anyway. Who cares, it's a good game so just play it!
blackdog~ 0 Posted July 21, 2002 Yeah, it takes part in the middle of the campaign then he resumes... it was all in the intro - he said something like it has been going on for years now, it was obviously not the end of it yet. Or at least thats what i think
Aculaud 0 Posted July 21, 2002 perhaps he jumped behind one of those boulders at the last minute and hid from the barrage until the air support came?
=BFP=Cheetah 0 Posted July 21, 2002 the intro is almost the same as another cutscene further in the campaign. At the end of the intro there is some text: One month back (or something like this) Then you play and Victor narrates untill you get the cutscene again, then it is real time again and you play the other part of the campaign but without narrating But the end makes James more hungry, and he wants to kill Guba (Cold War Crisis Campaign) Like he said in a cutscene, he wants to do a little plane hire job And in one of the starting cutscenes of CWC he runs it
EBass 0 Posted July 21, 2002 No, he narrates from that cutscene where Liz dies in Gubas ambush. The one you see at the start and again near the end, from then on its in the present tense
Baztard1984 0 Posted July 21, 2002 He was narating his life fighting the soviets up until the cut scene where liz is held hostage and dies in the subsequent fighting. after that point you are living his life in the current tense. Its kinda like in "Snatch" when Turkish and Tommy are talking to Doug the Head about a diamond, then the film starts and shows you how the diamond came in their posession. Aculaud 0 Posted July 21, 2002 I LOVE that movie. Anyway, i just checked the cut scenes in the campeign, and the one where guba tries to "negotiate" was further down the timeline than i thought. So yeah, i think cheetah, baztard, and you_looking_at_me got it right...
Harnu 0 Posted July 21, 2002 Man, i wish i could see allthe cutscenes. But i still haven't finished the campaign.
Dirt 0 Posted July 21, 2002 He might not be dead, Guba could have taken him prisoner. He might be on one of those chppers that got away....I guess we will have to wait for the next one to find out....Operation Flashpoint-Special Ops (Just my guess).

This is before the CWC Campaign, I think he is really dead.
richardwalker73 0 Posted July 21, 2002 Hey you guys. I hate the end to this too, I feel robbed of my victory. Now I know that Codemasters have scripted this to be the way but I have a cunning plan.... I have had a good look round and managed to destroy a handfull of the tanks that swarm in at the end and kill Victor (oooh they are gonna pay!. They are all hanging around the mountains near the Airfield. My thinking is this. As I have created a few of my own missions I know that Op Flash does its cutscenes "in engine". Now, since I have destroyed a couple of these tanks (Gruber or whatever his name is must be in one of them) but the level times out, and you have failed. I figure if you can whack all of the tanks (God knows I have come close) the end might not happen the way its been doing. Before any of you flame me for being dumb I simply mean that if the tanks arent there to kill him then how can he die and the game might end without them there to kill Victor. I dont know about you but if you know a mission involves some reinforcements coming from the east then if you look around you will find them waiting somewhere about and can be killed before they kick in, hence no reinforcements. So what would happen if I destoryed Grubers mob BEFORE they could come in and do the nasty? By the way a truly excellent game.
Jester983 0 Posted July 21, 2002 I wasnt really surprised that he died. It accured to me in about the middle of the campaign. Now im not saying im happy hes dead. Oh no. I was disappointed too. But really they never talked about him in CWC. So i guess this was for the best. Little off subject here but has anyone ever let it sit at the very end? I mean after it finishes all the credits. Cause everytime i hit spacebar it shows a little picture of gastovski. Im just wondering if he says something about victor. I think i could be wrong though. Baztard1984 0 Posted July 21, 2002 Although I hate it when the hero dies, I think this ending was great as it has a really strong moral to it. Take the quote from the (You Are Dead) death screen "Someone who is not prepared to die for somehting is not fit to live" - Martin Lutha King. The main character goes in to destroy the planes on his own knowing full well he may not make it out alive.
UKSubmariner 0 Posted July 22, 2002 Call me silly, but I thought we saw him die in the opening cutscene....

If u want to make the cutscene, you have to select intro from the mission editor). So the tanks will be there, no matter what you do. Oh, and that Gastovski's picture at the end of the credits is just a glitch.
