zeealex 2029 Posted April 26, 2014 hello! I thought I'd start this off, it's been long enough, and seeing as I've been working a little more on it, I thought I'd show it off to the big wide BIS world. Excamo is a custom designed camouflage, it's been implemented onto, so far, three units to work in specific environments (except one multiterrain one) the first design of excamo wasn't successful, the greens were too bright, and it proved ineffective. but further developments of the camo made it much more effective. so, here are the three units (excuse ms tangerine in the middle): from left to right it's Multi Terrain, Desert, and Woodland. Multi Terrain: Close up of the camo: preliminary concealment Tests: Desert: Close up: Preliminary concealment tests: woodland: Close up (texture quality needs boosting): preliminary test: same place the Multi terrain guy was. http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/115/6/f/woodland_test_2_by_zeealex-d7fz0rh.jpg (got to link the last two) http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee423/Zeealex/arma32014-03-2822-17-19-82_zps234d234c.png~original suggestions and comments are welcome, always wanting to improve my work! Valken 622 Posted April 26, 2014 Sweet! Can't have enough good camo variations for different units. My only issue is that the screenshots looks hazy for some reason so it is not super clear like in Arma 2. I need to check my settings on Arma 3 but I remember it a tad sharper. Might be me using FXAA on highest sharp setting. I hope you will make both "Boys" and "Girls" versions. :D
zeealex 2029 Posted April 26, 2014 thanks! yeah, i think it's the autofocus on splendid camera, or the image compression method steam uses, the game itself on my screen is very sharp ;) and a girls gear version is on the cards too :)
Hossus 13 Posted April 26, 2014 lol damn where is the woodland guy
zeealex 2029 Posted April 26, 2014 XD, I personally think the woodland camo conceals in its environment better than the other two. it's had more development to it (it was the first camo of the 3 to be made) if you're feeling curious, you can give it a go with the four models set up in the early test version i've sent out to friends. the config is a bit of a mess, my apologies http://www.mediafire.com/download/mb0ucjjz55uoab8/%40Zee_Excamo.rar
Hossus 13 Posted April 27, 2014 Yep i like the Woodland
zeealex 2029 Posted April 29, 2014 awesome! i'll try to get the desert and multi terrain gear to the same standard. obviously the pattern woodland uses may not work as well in desert colours, hence the compelete change.
zeealex 2029 Posted May 4, 2014 camo Version 4 is in processing at the moment. this particular design will probably be changed to a more versatile coloring so it can be used as the multi terrain variant
Dadsky 10 Posted May 14, 2014 I don't think you did the desert camo justice. The photo you have of the concealment test still shows a clearly defined human shape where the shoulder is, creating a deep shadow that draws the eye in a desert environment. Which then immediately draws attention to the straight lines of the rifle. So therefore I don't think that is representative of it's capabilities. I also am pretty sure I saw them all. I don't know whether that says good things about me, or bad things. Either way, I'm happy with myself.
zeealex 2029 Posted May 14, 2014 yeah, i agree, I used the wrong test image and forgot to change it XD, the multi-terrain and desert ones don't work as well I haven't worked as much on those two as i did on the Woodland version. by all means, being able to see them is great, sometimes i flick through the woodland test screenshots and i can barely see him 50m away on some of them, it's dependent on the image. by all means download it and do a realtime test. see what you think. Dadsky 10 Posted May 14, 2014 Would if I could mate. I currently have not played Arma 3, ever. My PC is too shitty and my awesomely specced Mac does not have Windows on it. Yet. :( The actual camos are pretty good, the shades and patterns blend nicely and do a good job of breaking up the outline when against a good surface. It's just some of the angles that don't quite work. For instance, it took me a good fifteen minutes to see the MulitTerrain guy in the first pic, but about fifteen seconds in the second. The difference was that rock he was close to. It provided an awkward contrast between the ground, camo and itself. A soldier would be aware of that and try to avoid it. However, I do think that the multi pattern needs a bit more work to get the colour balance right. Might I suggest trying a slightly lighter shade? It seems to work in some cases, less so in others. The desert pattern was good, just needs better placement for the showcase shot (I can understand you're a modder, not a photographer. If you are, well...). The woodland... I didn't see it for a good twenty minutes and he wasn't that far away. And even then, I'm only mostly sure that I can see him. I think you've done your job there. Overall, I can say that this is an excellent quality camo set. And number four reminds me a bit of the Resistance camo from way back in OFP. Not in the pattern, but the colour. zeealex 2029 Posted May 14, 2014 Would if I could mate. I currently have not played Arma 3, ever. My PC is too shitty and my awesomely specced Mac does not have Windows on it. Yet. :( that sucks, so I'm guessing you're putting windows on bootcamp then? It's just some of the angles that don't quite work. For instance, it took me a good fifteen minutes to see the MulitTerrain guy in the first pic, but about fifteen seconds in the second. The difference was that rock he was close to. yeah, what i was trying to do, was to provide a comparison of MT versus Desert in the same positions, but the image limit on the forums kinda mucked that idea up, i'll be updating the MT camo soon, so I'll take your suggestions for a lighter shade into account and get some new test screenshots. I am a photographer, an average one, but one nevertheless :) these shots were mostly to get camo looking fairly effective, which didn't work XD if you want to see a demo of my superawesomeamazeballs Arma 3 photography skills, then here you go, http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/131/7/4/arma_3__the_dogfight_begins_by_zeealex-d7i06bd.jpg :P The woodland... I didn't see it for a good twenty minutes and he wasn't that far away. And even then, I'm only mostly sure that I can see him. I think you've done your job there. I'm glad the woodland works, as said, it's had more development than the other two, so it's good to see it's working as expected. version 4 for some reason is how I picture the lovechild of ATACS and Flecktarn, not sure why, like you I think it's the colors :)
