Freelook doesn't work

Recommended Posts

Okay, so today I used the empty controls setting to clear all controls and then bound my own manually again.

I have tried binding “Look†and “Freelook†to “Left Alt†and whenever I hold “Look†my mouse stops moving my character’s head around and whenever I click “Freelook†my character’s head freezes until I click again.

What am I doing wrong?

In airplanes I can look by holding “Left Alt†bound to “Look†as usual… it doesn’t work as infantry.

Dont use look. Example, I use the num pad key #2 for my freelook key, and mouse only to look around thats it.

I also use this mod to better organize my controls: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=23304, and eliminate some action menu things,

as well enhance interaction icons like opening doors, climbing ladders.

There's two bindings for freelook; just freelook and freelook toggle. Defaults are 'Alt' and 'Alt x 2'.

If you toggle the freelook on (alt x2) and then hold Alt down, your head stops turning. I think your problem has something to do with this.

I've never even noticed the 'Look' control. Is it the same as freelook?

There's only "look" and "freelook" in the options menu...

Binding freelook to alt and clicking it locks my head and binding it to altx2 and double-clicking it locks my head...

In the config there are three look commands:

keyActionFreeLook[]={}; <- Not in in-game controls menu, doesn't do shit

keyLookAround[]={}; <- "Look", works as described above

keyLookAroundToggle[]={}; <- "Freelook", works as described above

I've tried setting them manually using the config and they still don't work.

As I said dont use look, just freelook, I never had issues with it.

You dont need look, use your mouse to look around.

You're right, there's no toggle freelook command. Maybe that was in Arma2, idk.

The "Look" is the temporary freelook, i.e. holding down Alt to freelook.

The "Freelook" is the permanent freelook.

So it still sounds like you have them bound to the same key. Are the default controls still working correctly?

As I said: neither of them work...

I don't have them bound to the same key or at the same time.

Binding freelook -> Alt, nothing. If I click alt it stops my mouse movements from doing anything as infantry until I click alt again.

Ok, this might be a stupid question but have you bound the look directions controls? (In the view section "look up", "look right" etc. They're mouse directions by default.) Because that produces the exact result you're describing.

Well, yes... because I'm able to look around without look/freelook :s

It's the strangest issue. Seems my character's head is 100% locked in position unless I'm in a vehicle.

I've tried binding both look and freelook (one at a time) to alt and some other keys and tried binding them the way they're supposed to be by default.

I've copied my settings file so I may revert to default controls soon and see if that helps.

"I'm able to look around without look/freelook", that's not looking, that's aiming? Those are two different bindings; aim & look. (Or I don't get it at all :) )

I'm able to look around, by aiming.

I'm not able to turn my head independently from my weapon (look/freelook) :(

:) Yes, when your gun moves with your head, you're aiming. When the gun stays still and head moves, you're looking. There's two separate sets of bindings. "Look left" (default: Mouse left) and "Aim left" (default: Mouse left). If the "Look left" is unbound, the freelook & look keys do nothing at all.

Either that or I really don't understand or you've found the strangest bug (and I'm sorry for wasting your time).

Oh, look and aim are different bindings? I'll have to look into... hah... look into that.

Edit: right you are. Now everything works fine.

I hadn't bound "look <direction>" to mouse <direction, only "look" and "freelook" to various buttons.
