MarkShot 0 Posted September 13, 2002 OFP 1.46 SP mission. I've had decent success (myself and two other black ops) in racking up dead enemy soldiers. However, I have been so stealthy that I am hiding in a bush and a BMP has parked right next to me. I only have an HK and grenades. I don't see any way to kill it or leave the area. Any suggestions? Thanks.
MarkShot 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Now, let me just add a little more information. My two fellow black ops are in too close proximity to the BMP to easily pick up an RPG. However, if one of them should suceed, the destruction of the BMP will also kill be next to it in the bush!
m79 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Crawl away, slowly, if you have a satchel set it.
Mister Frag 0 Posted September 13, 2002 That happens occasionally: you find yourself in a position where you are just totally screwed due to unfortunate circumstances. The same thing happens in Real Life. There are a couple of things you can do, however: 1. Try to crawl away. Do it slowly, preferably away from the direction that the BMP is facing, and not using the 'Run' key. If you have a long way to go to find cover or concealment and it is a SP mission, you can always accelerate time to make the wait less painful. 2. If you think you can crawl away and have a satchel charge, place the satchel charge, set a delay of 90 seconds or something, and try to make your getaway. If you make it, you can detonate the charge manually as soon as it is safe; if you are detected, the time-delayed detonation may still take out the BMP and allow the other members of your team to continue safely. 3. If you have a satchel charge but don't think you can get away, become a hero and blow yourself up along with the BMP. This may help the rest of the team succeed in completing the objective. 4. Try to destroy or disable the BMP using hand grenades. It is possible.
IceFire 0 Posted September 13, 2002 I'd go with Mr. Fraggs suggestion. I have been in this situation many times. Here's what I do. : For 1, you can crawl all around the BMP without it seeing you as long as you stay close to the edge of the BMP around its tracks. Lay a satchel on one side of the BMP. Don't set a time charge. You will have to manually set it off. Once you plant the satchel, crawl around to the opposite side of the BMP. From that side, start to carefully crawl away from the BMP while making sure to keep the BMP solidly between you and your satchel. (This way, if you were to set off the satchel, the BMP would act as a shield from the satchel blast) Get far enough away so the exploding BMP doesn't kill you. Putting the satchel on the opposite side of your side should give you extra leeway when exploding the BMP. This should do it.
walker 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Hi MarkShot Been there done that lol. As someone already said its like in Real Life™ Just one of the realy great aspects of the game. I dont like it when BMPs run arround like demented darleks play squash all the bushes. There is that characteristic high pitched squeek to their tracks and you can hear it getting nearer and nearer when its out of sight and you just have to stay still. I think IceFire's description of what to do is the best so far nice attention to detail that place the charge on the opposite side of the BMP to your egress route. The only things I would add are: Plan your egress route on the map first to take maximum advantage of cover like bushes or since 1.75 those wonderful dips in the ground. Try to present the smallest aspect of your self to the BMP; either your ass or your head. Crawling forwards makes the hair on your neck stand up at the slightest squeak or the rotation of the turret (obviously stay out of LOS of the turret too.) You can use the number pad to look over your shoulder.  Crawling backwards means you can see the BMP all the time which leads to less sweaty moments but you need to realy think three dimensionally and translate the map of the ground to your direction of crawl. Use the number pad to look over your shoulder to see where you are going. Not much help I know. One other as you play a particular scenario more times I think I have noticed the AI gains a knowledge of your tactics and changes its tactics to counter them  Kind regards walker

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted September 13, 2002 Another proposal, distract the BMP! Make your other Black ops move somewhere else on th map and tell him to make some noise, supposingly the BMP will go chase him, depending of course what his objective is! Azz -GUN- 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Call in air support  Place the charge to the opposite side of BMP but not right next to it out a bit a few ft away then in theory...the blast should not be strong enough to blow up the BMP but it may disable it. or flip it over ? and if you are at the opposite side... you shouldnt be killed by the blast i figure if you cant get away disabiling it is the best way to go. -edit- also if the crew is turned out you could always try and shoot them. Mister Frag 0 Posted September 13, 2002 I have this terrible vision of placing the charge on the opposite side of the BMP, far enough to not destroy it, intending to flip it over, and it lands right on top of me!
GAMEER_77 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Lol, heres my suggestion: Just place the satchel, stand up and run like shit in the opposite direction, when your 50 metres away hit the dirt and blow the BMP to shit! ...Just remember to put your umbrella up, i hear its raining BMP's today PEACE
PitViper 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Is that modelled in the game? force dissipation of the blast area due to an object?!?!
GAMEER_77 0 Posted September 13, 2002 Y...Yes...I suppose

force dissipation of the blast area due to an object?!?!<span id='postcolor'> Yes, it is modelled, at least in a basic way. You can take cover from RPGs, LAWs, mini-gun fire, tank shells etc. behind rocks, for instance. You won't survive a continuing barrage due to splash damage, but you are protected from direct fire and the blast effects. Also, going prone or crawling past even a small berm prior to setting off satchel charges greatly increases your chances of surviving that little adventure. cybrid 0 Posted September 14, 2002 BMP parks right next to you eh? This happens to me a little too often to be a coinsidence. I think what happens is that the BMP knows you are there but not you exact location because it is so dark. I've tried crawling to another bush, you will get to that bush but the BMP comes right over to you after a while. In one vain and desperate attempt, I just kept shooting one with my sniper rifle until its mg made quick work of me.
Major Fubar 0 Posted September 14, 2002 Sacrifice one of your blackops...order them to run somewhere the BMP will notice...hopefully it will go after them laving you in the clear... Failing that, sit there and wait, it may just drive off after a few hours.
IceFire 0 Posted September 14, 2002 I think I do remember an instance when I was in a desperate situation. I was in the same situation as stated in this thread and was sure the BMP was gonna nail me. I placed my satchel on the other side as previously described. Â But I detonated the satchel very early on when I was only like 5 feet away from the BMP on the other side. Â Â The reason I detonated it so early was because the BMP moved a bit and I thought it was gonna get me. Anyways, the whole fukkin thing flipped right over me. Â That's right. Â Over my fukkin head. Â The damn thing landed 10 feet away from me on the other side of me, and then I was outta there running. I think this happened in the last black op mission where you had to steal the documents from Guba's house.
GAMEER_77 0 Posted September 14, 2002 Hey, thats a good idea. Instead of running like shit, run around and hide behind the BMP. 5 feet away though and on the dirt or you'll be killed. This threads just turning into peoples stupid attempts at a joke. Sad PEACE
walker 0 Posted September 14, 2002 Hi All Why not try it out in the editor Then find what distance is perfect for flipping BMPs over your head Walker

Major Fubar 0 Posted September 14, 2002 Yeah, that might work too.
Mister Frag 0 Posted September 14, 2002 Also be aware of secondary explosions, or a delayed one -- the blast from that will also kill you if you are too close and/or standing up. Trust me on that one...
