Arma freezes on startmenu

Recommended Posts

Edit Solution: You HAVE to enable the steam community in-game option. (steam->settings-> ingame-> checkbox). just gotta love this steaming POS...

the last 3 days i installed arma 3 on my older computer for modding purposes. It ran totally fine with medium settings on Stratis (i only need it for testing purposes anyway). Q9550, 6GB Ram, Radeon 4870

Today i wanted to do the same thing like yesterday, except arma refuses to start. It always freezes before i even get to the main menu. Both in windowed and normal mode, without mods (normal steam launch). If i use -nosplash and -world=empty i get to where the main menu appears but freezes right after that (can't even finish "de-blocking" the empty world scene).

It's a solid stop, always occupying ~370-400Mb Ram and 25% cpu (all cores).

I have installed/deinstalled absolutely nothing on the computer in the last 3 days. No directx change, no win update, no anything. Arma or Steam didn't update either. I verified steam integrity, removed the single mod-addon folder i had, no luck. This is completely confusing.

count me in, i just attempted to start arma 3 this evening. i got past the bohemia screen, then a big ARMA III screen comes up and thats where it stops. exact same CPU and RAM usage at yours, cept mine peaked at around 420mb once. ive rebooted and was about to reinstall, but ill hold off til i see what your thread yields.

arma II runs fine, DayZ mod on arma II runs fine, but arma III refusing to get past the ARMA III screen right after the bohemia load screen

computer specs:

AMD phenom II x4 955 (3.5ghz OC)

16gb 10700 g.skill ripjaw memory

120gb OCZ vertex3 ssd

asus m5a88-m motherboard

geforce gtx 560 Ti 2gb (no OC)

This started happening to me when i turned off some steam friends thingy(I honestly cant remember what it was, hence i disabled it in the first place). When i turned it back on, ArmA3 started working fine again.

I've always run all my games, including ArmA 3, with the Steam in-game overlay disabled. I have 36.2 hours on ArmA 3 in the past 2 weeks.

Steam Client is always updating, so there may have been a change. I do know the settings choices have been updated. And I like that allot of the Beta stuff is in a good gui now. But yeah I dont use the overlay... and have no issues? I did chk some stuff when i found out about the new stuff.

Now you may have a choice selected that needs Steam overlay?

But I would try running Steam as Admin. Rt-clk ,run-as

Very happy I came across this thread. I disabled the Steam community thingymagig a couple of days ago and played for several days with no issues. Then today, after playing all morning, I tried to boot up in the PM and couldn't get past the black Arma III screen. Even re-installed to no avail. I then, based on this thread, enabled the community thingymagig and it works fine.

Steam Workshop integration is the problem.

Check the Steam forums - many people had the same problem, sadly - Enabling\Disabling Steam Community not always works.
