How to optimize personal PC for Arma 3 gaming server?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I was wondering if there was anything I could do to optimize my PC for being server for my small 8-12 man MP missions.

my specs

quad core AMD 9850 Black ed. not overclock

liquid cool

8 gigs RAM

SLI GTX 660 x2

broadband internet 25 Mpbs

sata HD

win 7 64bit

not sure if there is much I can do other than start server, play and see what happens, however I was wondering if I can do anything to improve things. 1st time trying this.

thanks in advance.

overclock the cpu, get the fastest stable clock speed you can achieve

Thats it

The ssd will only improve start up, it wont have an effect on performance for a server (only a client)

For the client it speeds up loading of textures and creates a non stuttering frames

The server does nothing with graphics.

Have a word with Dwarden too and get hold of the latest performance server.exe if you are running stable

For the SSD I thought he was hosting an MP game (server and client) not running a dedi.. my bad.

Maybe he is running a client server and not a dedicated, he doesn't make it clear

hey sry for not making it more clear. Its my first time running a client server. I would like to use my MP missions for my clan 8-12 guys while playing in the server too. Was wondering what I could do to play the game play the best for all with my current specs. I am nervous on overclocking my CPU, although I had purchase liquid cooler for that reason. Just haven't moved forward with the overclock, YET. Not sure how much my ISP plays a part in the whole thing but just want to make sure my PC can handle the job. thanks again.

I would try overclocking then you want the fastest CPU clock speed possible. What is your upload speed?

I have another question regarding my personal PC as server, non dedicated. I tried having some clan join my server last night, some were able to join and others were not. I think that was may be due to their internet connection. I did not have any mods on that they already did not have, but I am wondering, besides overclocking which I did which is going well thus far,

Is there anything else I can do to open my PC to join my ARMA server but not jeopardize the security. I only have windows firewall and AVG antivirus which is manual on mode.
