karneiro 0 Posted December 14, 2001 I can't finish the "escape from prison" mission. I wait till the night falls, then they put me in a soviet jeep (UAZ???) and take me through a road. Then they stop the car and execute me!! How do I escape??? What is the best time to escape?? HELP!!!!!! P.S.: I can't find the north star either...
killerbee 0 Posted December 14, 2001 u dont have to wait thet long, near the prison area there r 2 bulidings with a centeral hall (the only entrance), inside thet hall there r ammo crates, from there u can pick an ak-47 or a pk. u can follow the officer who takes u to prison and then break right to the hall, grab the ak-47, kill those in your way, run to the mi24 and take off, or u can try the Bmp. Damage Inc 0 Posted December 14, 2001 The BMP is not a very good idea, because all the soldiers start throwing grenades and it won't take very many hits from them.

I never got any grenades thrown at me while in the BMP.... I just ran over people until I got to the copter, then killed everyone around and took off. rekrul 7 Posted December 15, 2001 Ok, I replayed it again. Now I just stole the BMP, drove over a few 'friendly' ruskies, (but they are just pushed aside when I do that) and head for the chopper. Unfortunatly some bastards stole it before I did, so I drove to the hillside by the trees, got out, and ran thru the forrest. Got the same msg as earlier and continued back to the base where the cutscene rescued me. I guess it was because I killed 'friendly' ruskies. Quite an annoying bug... -Rekrul
karneiro 0 Posted December 17, 2001 Thank you guys for the tips...  With them I could finish the mission: Got on the BMP as driver, drove over as many enemies I could, got on the Hind, destroyed what was left of the base, got shot by another Hind, bailed out... (uf) ...then an Intro apperared: "You have passed the hills in the middle of.... blá, blá, blá"  then runned toward "The Big Dipper" and an intro appeared. Then: Mission accomplished!!! Moral of the story: what a boring mission... was the worst mission I played on OFp!!!! Too many time to acomplish for almost zero action!!! Once Again:  Thank you allot guys!!! Longjocks 0 Posted December 17, 2001 If you replay it... try taking the Hind straight away (as soon as you land and get out). You may have to get in the back door and move up front but that's no hassle. Take off and head out over the ocean. When you get a certain distance from the base it's mission complete! Soon2B 2nd LT 0 Posted January 1, 2002 Um I guess I'm the only person who did it the easy way. I think I did it the way BIS intended. All you have to do is go with the spetznaz guys. They take you in a car out to the middle of nowhere. When they all pile out you just stand by the car or they'll shoot you. After maybe 30 seconds you get the option to get back into the car as driver. So You do that and start driving. The spetznaz shoot at you but you drive away. Then the scene changes to you on top of the mountain in the middle of the island. find the big dipper and head in the opposite direction. Eventually you'll come to the base that you took the mission before. NATO troops are there and you get a nice little movie of you being saved. I'm pretty sure that's how BIS intended it to be won considering my way came with a few movies. But if you want to shoot your way out rambo style i guess that works too. Just seems kind of silly. Scott Bruno 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Oh, that mission. I escaped from my captors, got in the BMP, ran over some bad guys, shot it out with another BMP, ran like hell from a helicopter raining rockets down on me, and finally reached the mountains. Fade to black; Act I ends. Pant pant pant. Whoa, that was exciting! Cool mission. Fade in. Act II begins. I found myself on a mountaintop; a nice, clear night sky. I quickly located the Big Dipper, and also noticed that both the Sun and the Moon seemed to be out. Weird, but ok. As it happens, the direction opposite the Big Dipper/Pole Star alignment, South, is also where the mysteriously present sun is. "Must be a hint of some kind," I said to myself, "for people who couldn't find the constellation." So, I headed south, down the mountain. I felt pretty good about myself at this point. A daring escape, a furiously paced battle, and successful celestial navigation, all within a few minutes. "Not a bad day's work," I thought to myself. Not long after I set out, I found a town with a single US soldier standing guard. I remember that as I began running towards him, I felt a little disappointed that I didn't have to do more pathfinding and ducking bad guys. But hey, at least I did everything right, right? Wrong. No sooner do I approach my newfound friend than he hits the dirt and rips into me with M16 bursts. Tap-tap-tap! goes the rifle. Argh! Thud! goes me. What the hell? "OK," I thought, "Maybe I just startled him. It's dark and he's out here alone. I might be a little jumpy, too." So I spent about 30 minutes trying to approach in different ways; walking, running, crawling, sitting, saluting -- everything I could think of. Sadly, all attempts ended in my untimely death. "Well, doesn't that suck." I figured maybe this guy just wasn't the US force I was supposed to seek out. Which is weird, because I followed the stars south as I was supposed to. But ok, maybe there are others. So I wander around the island for a while. A few hours, actually (over several sessions and days, not in one sitting!. Frustrated, wondering why this thing won't end when I know that I did everything right, I finally gave in and did a very un-manly thing: I came here and looked for directions. I could have been upset when I found and read this thread. But instead, I figured I'd just try out what Soon2B 2nd LT suggested above. Sure enough, it works. I followed the Spetznatz guys instead of escaping from the camp, stole the car and drove off. Boom, Act II starts. No sun in the night sky this time, which I wondered about. I approach the same US guy who killed me a thousand times over, but this time, I get a cut scene -- end game, mission complete, yadda yadda. Argh. Oh well. Thank you, Soon2B 2nd LT. That'll teach me to not ask for directions sooner.
PFC_Mike 2 Posted September 10, 2002 I went in the hind to the base, got out, and grabbed a '74. I shot anyone I saw, and waited til the Hind took off. I made it into one of the barracks, grabbed an RPG in there, dealt with the BMP, and engaed the infantry. I left, and had no idea where south was. After randomly running for 15 min, I got the end cutscene.
IceFire 0 Posted September 15, 2002 What the hell?? Â I never got any cut scene after beating that mission. What I did was wait until they put me in camp and the sun went down. Â Then I suddenly jumped into the BMP and hastily drove down the road. Jumped out cause I knew the hind was going to get me. Â And started running south til I ended the mission. But I liked that mission. It required you to really think and plan, instead of just shoot and kill. A great escape mission!
Cedaie 0 Posted September 16, 2002 that mission was messed up, I literally walked out and no one noticed me
pathfinder 0 Posted September 16, 2002 Hehe I just got done playing that level again, befor I even saw this post....weird I beat the game long ago, but now I go back and have fun with the game. And see just how well BIS did on level design. This is what I just did. I waited till dark and befor the spetz get there I heist the BMP. Shoot down the Hind with a heat round as it takes off. Kill the other BMP and as many dudes as possible , grab an AK/NVG/and some det packs. Took the bmp down the road as a T80 gave chase but missed twice. Got a ways down the road jumped out and filled up on mags but kept 2 dets. Head for the woods and fade. For shits and grins I followed the big dipper north useing speed up -/+ keys and I checked out GUBA'S house. Avoiding the patrolling Hind and troops, I killed the officer in the house and 2 shilkas who were guarding the house with the det packs. I just hid from the hind and it never shot me. Killed two dudes at the gate, ran south for awhile and boom I warped to the base......(I hate that warp effect , if you run south long enough it always warps you home. I think all the bases have some troops and tanks but I could be wrong. Guess I'll have to find out
