Tovarish 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Found this story, I think it's a good idea as long as it goes both ways. What do you think?
Othin 0 Posted August 28, 2002 I think it is a good idea. Anytime you have one Nations forces working/training/deploying with other's I think it is beneficial to both. As long as it is handled equally and fairly it should work pretty good. The only thing I didn't understand was this... </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Under the plan, U.S. and Canadian troops would for the first time be allowed to serve under the command of each other's forces in North America, under strict guidelines and on a case-by-case basis that must be approved by each government. "In no way does this reduce Canadian sovereignty, because this is a planning group that will have no control over troops," McCallum told The Globe.<span id='postcolor'> So they will be serving under each others forces, but not under the control of them?? That part kind of threw me.

But that's my best guess....that part confused me too.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Joint Ops can be beneficial to both sides, providing neither one screws up too bad. BTW, this will be independent of NATO, right?
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted August 28, 2002 Cooperation between nations can be good, but what can Canada contribute? The U.S. Army alone has how many millions of people in it? Canada has about 53,000 military members, that's Air Force, Army, Navy, and Reserves combined. Sure, we can contribute to North American Air safety, with our 40 flyable fighters that are 20 years old and don't even have digital comms yet. What a good deal the Americans are getting , Canada Customs (Border Guards) doesn't even have half of the technology that the Americans use for finding explosives and drugs. During the summer, we rely on student customs agents to help ease the workload of our understaffed Customs agency. Honestly, I think the minister of defence should spend more of his time on usefull things, like getting proper funding for our forces in the first place, instead of relying on the U.S. for help. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Ehh, yer snipers are good, but you need to teach them that slapping priests is not cool lol
bn880 5 Posted August 28, 2002 Well they are getting a deal (the Americans), this way they are sure they can better protect themselves from terrist attacks and maybe handle them on our land, instead of theirs. So far we haven't had any real threats of terrorism, but I think the States would love to bring their war over here, and do some of the dirty work as they do not trust Canadian ability. PitViper 0 Posted August 30, 2002 There are always international military exercises with multiple militaries involved. I was involved in annual one in Egypt.
Paratrooper 0 Posted August 30, 2002 Clearly America wants a little more influence north of the border.
