Demagor 0 Posted August 28, 2002 This a short article, as quoted from Jane's Defense News: "As the SA-80's woes continue, it looks like time to start again By Terry J Gander, Editor of Jane's Infantry Weapons The British Army's SA-80 Individual Weapon (IW) and Light Support Weapon (LSW) are back in the news for the wrong reasons. Despite extensive modifications it seems that they continue to jam. At present the two types are destined to remain in service until at least 2015. That may not now happen. It would appear that the only certain way to rectify the IW/LSW unreliability situation is to start again. Both weapons have now gained such a reputation for unreliability that even the slightest shortcoming will result in calls for replacement, the most likely candidate being the H&K G36." ... any thoughts? As for replacing the SA80 I think that the SIG 550 is a good contender, built under licence of course. Or a totally new design taking into account our requirements. ran 0 Posted August 28, 2002 the entire french army and security forces use it from the experience i got with this rifle , it's pretty good , its 1100rpm is really mad the only main problems with it : short magazine , even if it's not really the mag capacity that disturb me , it's simply the fact that the early famas version (F1) only accepts the 25rounds one , and can't use the 5.56 stanag , but this problem is solved since the arrival of the G2 in service the plastic looking doesn't make justice to this gun it has most of the problems the bullpup design introduce but it has a lot of strong poinbt wich make of it a good weapon in my eyes , like the ability to use a powerfull rifle grenade , the latest version can be mounted with an m203 launcher and a great variety of scopes can be mounted of the famas , my service rifle never jammed while in my hands

I didn't like two things about it: 1) Very plastic cheep feeling. Didn't feel like a real rifle, but more like a toy. 2) I don't think 5,56 calibre rifles are good for the infantry. With 7,62 you can be sure that the bullet won't deflect if fired through vegetation.
