Rail shooting missions in the campaign?

Hi guys.

I wonder: will there be some rail shooting missions in the next campaign episode?

Missions where the player is a Ghosthawk or Blackfoot gunner - like Sick1 or I made in our ArmA 2 campaign?

I think it would be cool, fun to play and add some diversity.

And what do you think about it? Would you like to play it? Or do you think it's useless, too much scripted and not in the sandbox theme?

First episode was already rail shooting enough, no need to make the second one even worse.

Funny, but quite true :) I still get shivers when thinking of the similar mission in the merc DLC campaign..

maybe he is alluding to the fact that you need a lot of direct hits on an enemy to kill him. Which seems to get worse when you increase difficulty.

I wouldn't actually mind a segment, but I do believe that "Ghosthawk gunner" adds way less gameplay potential than playing a Blackfoot gunner, since the latter could have both the DAGRs and ASRAAMs. Heck, AC-130 gunnery feels "played out" as a mission -- not least since seemingly every implementation I've come across, both in an "AAA" game and in Arma mods, seems to be the AC-130U Spooky II (25 mm, 40 mm, 105 mm), whereas much more recently the AC-130W Stinger II (previously aka the MC-130W Dragon Spear) and AC-130J Ghostrider configurations combine a 30 mm autocannon with AGMs and/or guided bombs.

Playing as the driver in a "rail shooting" segment could be even more interesting though... :icon_twisted:

Yes, I think missions with player as helo gunner would be fun. Many A2CO and CWR2 missions have player as helo pilot with AI gunner. They are fun also. A wide mix of mission types is always best in my book, to have variety.

Playing missions as gunner with AI pilot can be very frustrating unless helo path is scripted or waypoints are carefully thought out. With ill-considered waypoints, AI pilot can move all over the place, making it very difficult for gunner (you) to aim effectively. In addition, there is this bug to consider when making missions with player as gunner.

Upvoted that ticket since I was able to reproduce it in the Editor on stable branch with the Blackfoot gunner (starting the player in that seat), but instead of "rail shooting" I was thinking more of MW2's "Endgame", at least

the part with Captain Price shooting while the player maneuvered the Zodiac

Or alternately, as per the "DO EVERYTHING" joke: "RAMIREZ! Set up my missile shot!"
