skullfkr 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Okay, how about this?... No engine overhaul needed =) The buoyancy is all that needs to be changed on the models, as for their speed while in water that should be set depending on what class you are (i.e. special ops) just like how the bmp slows down when it's in water. yes, it will take forever to swim if you get dropped 4k out, but I am talking about being dropped in the water just out of sight from land for clandestine infiltration, or being dropped in a hidden cove, out of sight, then swimming to the beach. HellToupee 0 Posted August 28, 2002 its one of the man reasons we need swimming, u cant et to boats that drift away and u cant get out of them untill you at shore where u appear 20m away from the boat up on the shore.

theavonlady 2 Posted August 28, 2002 How about having the code changed to make you more bouyant as you drop more weapons?
skullfkr 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Yea, maybe in a future patch we will see some swimming, we don’t need underwater action, just enough so that you don’t look like Jesus performing a miracle. Just having your head above water would be sufficient. I remember my uncle telling me about training for Special Forces going into Vietnam; he had to jump into water and tread water without his arms with a rifle in his hands, wearing boots and his BDU, he had to hold it for 5 minutes… he didn’t drown. I don’t know if they still do this training, but even if they don’t its still possible to tread water even with a weapon in your hands, now put that weapon on your back, and you could dog paddle or even breast stroke =)
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 28, 2002 I just dont see the use of it. Why the hell do you want to swim? In wouldnt change great things about the game. YOu can crawl into water you can take small or big boats, cross sandbanks why would swimming create a new challenge for you? I think other features are far more important. DarkLight 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Yes but you have to admit that it can be irritating if you die in the water while trying to reach a boat and stuff like that. It doesn't have to be anything special, just not being killed when going in the water is good enough for me...
skullfkr 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Continuing with this watersports thread…… I would really also like to see a functional navy….. I mean look, Battlefield 1942 is waxing our beautiful sim. They can swim (for a limited time only)! They Have carriers, subs, and battleships (destroyers?). As well as landing vessels…(And what do you know, they have bombers, fighters, tanks, jeeps, halftracks, and artillery too.) Calling in artillery (indirect fire) from a battleship would be supersweet! You are inserted just off the coast of the suspected enemy base; you make your way to shore and stealthily approach and break out your trusty laser targeting system (or radio if you’re on a budget) and then a few moments later… poop-on-a-stick!!! With carriers you could have short range air platforms (sea harriers and the like) with the advent of the code in Resistance, if you were to play a campaign type battle, if any of your navy was destroyed you wouldn’t have it in the next round (but might get reinforced if you can still win the next battle) I would honestly like to build a fully functional carrier complete with working lifts (would there be a way to code a vehicle inside another vehicle to fill all the air stations? Or just request a air platform on the tarmac and it will spawn on the lift?…) Remember it takes a minimum of 5 minutes to get a plane armed prepped and off the deck in an emergency, and 15 if they weren’t already on standby. I happen to be interested in stealth tactics and clandestine ops, so being able to simulate a full black bag mission would really interest me, and if you have played thru the SP game you have realized that BI like that kind of mission too. Not like we are asking for an engine overhaul, just a change in probably one or two lines of code on the models in question. Water does not = instant death in real life, no matter how piranha infested those waters might be.

This is besides the other reasons given here about dying when trying to board a drifting boat and other similar banalities that can otherwise ruin a good mission. Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 28, 2002 pah, swiss mountain units would beat the shit out of those Isreaelis. Cause our units have better knifes, better watches, better sunglasses and better chocolate! Survival of the fittest? That is only valid for animals though, I wonder why so many people translate poor Darwin always into the human-context. I am not a monkey who can climb to get the best coconut, nor giraffe that has a long throat to reach the highest leaves...

skullfkr 0 Posted August 28, 2002 so, like yea.... we were umm... talking about swimming or something like that... i guess.... i just love the way these boards turn into a chat room about anything 'but' the topic they are in =) so, if we get o2 i think the issue could be resolved easily, probably with a few things to iron out... first thing is to make it so the water does not damage/kill us when we are in it, then we can talk about making ourselves able to float our heads above water. has anybody been reading this thread who is in the o2 beta that could give it a try and see how crazy i may be?
