skullfkr 0 Posted August 27, 2002 A frogman with flippers and S.C.U.B.A. gear maybe? Now I can understand that carying all that gear/weapons would make u sink like a rock, but say you dropped it all and made a swim for it to evade persuit. Guest Posted August 27, 2002 Because the OFP engine doesn't have any support for water/underwater. You would have found out it very quicky if you had bothered to use the search engine. There is a diver addon made by walker, but you never actually go under water with it - it is basically a ship with a different model.

HellToupee 0 Posted August 27, 2002 who sez u have to see under the water, look at the bmp and m113 we the soldier equlivant of that, usually carrying alot of gear in bags and stuff makes your boyant, for free diving i have to use quite a heavy weight belt for a 4mil wetsuit and im quite small. A simple slow moving hold head above water animation, a wading animation and a freestyle animation are all we need we dont need to go under the water to swim.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted August 27, 2002 maybe suma doesn't want to make the animation. think about it. he has to be sustained by a rope or two from ceiling and try to do swimming motion. that would be hilarious to see. and if a photo of that gets out to public, i bet Suma can never go out on streets of Czech Republic without being ridiculed by old ladies as 'that nutty youngman who can't swim.' Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 27, 2002 Well I put a heavy gun into your hands, a heavy backpack, a good portion of ammunition, heavy clothing and heavy boots and throw you into a lake. Lets see how long you can stay on the surface!
WhoCares 0 Posted August 27, 2002 I have seen regular parachute units doing exactly this! Dropped by a chopper above a lake, releasing the cap <10m above water, with full combat equipment, the backpack tied with a rope, and then they had to swim to the beach... Delta Force series have swimming but the soldiers swim faster than Johnny Weissmüller on speed even if they have full arsenal of weapons with them.
DarkLight 0 Posted August 27, 2002 Yes but imagine swimming extremely slow, that would suck and then you would've wished that there was no such thing as swimming... It's not bad that the soldiers in DF swim faster than normal, a game shouldn't be 100% realistic. DF isn't realistic, i don't mind the fast swimming.... DarkLight 0 Posted August 27, 2002 If under water combat is possible slow swimming should be allowed, also if divers can take cover between plants and can hide so they aren't easy to spot by ppl outside the water... Might be a nice idea, but just swimming at the surface slowly wouldn't be useful i think, you're such an easy target...

You are talking about Para units, highly specialised elite units to the sort of job that normal grunts can not do.
WhoCares 0 Posted August 27, 2002 It was a unit of the Luftlandebrigade 26 (Saarlandbrigade), I think the Batallion 262, located in Merzig, and the Batallions of this brigade consist in a large part of conscripts (at least 10 years ago). Those units are also part of the AMF and I know conscripts joining manoevres in Norway, Spain, Greece... However, they have definatly a very hard physical training, compared to other units. We had one Batallion of them in our baracks and while we tried to sleep another hour or two they already turned their first rounds... And the units in OFP must be something especial - they have no problems with parachutes, tanks, choppers... Â

DarkLight 0 Posted August 27, 2002 A OFP soldier can fight in normal battles, can handle AT or AA weapons, they can fly choppers and planes, they can drive almost any vehicle, they can handle any weapon.... but they can't swim
habdoel 0 Posted August 27, 2002 i think it's somthing special in the water around the malden islands and nogova, even a large boat like a lst can't move in it(exept those mark and russian boat, but they have powerfull engines)

Well I can fly helicopter, drive tanks, fly an Airbus but I must admit I cant swim. So the game is pretty realistic.
