PIP flickering ever since first alpha release...still not fixed after final release?

Recommended Posts

lev... I need you to ask to stop spreading false information... I'm on a verge of thinking that you are trolling...

Yes, you are right... Disabling SLI gets rid of PIP flickering. However, like ramius86 said, Arma 3 DOES support SLI.

WHAT!!! How the... How did you conclude this? Disabling SLI WILL degrade performance (30-40 FPS loss for me).

Not trolling here. I don't consider Arma 3 supporting SLI because when running SLI causes flickering in PiP and a huge performance loss for me. If a major gameplay feature doesn't work, I wouldn't really consider it "supporting" it.

With SLI on, I average 28 fps at best. With it off I can easily get ~50fps average. This is on single player btw. Yeah I didn't really believe it either but the reason I had to turn off SLI was because missions featuring UAVs or vehicles were simply unplayable with all the flickering and was pleasantly surprised to find a fps gain as well.

I think you got some problem with something else maybe cpu or you Made this tests when it was alpha maybe... For me with sli 680 I loose half fps without sli ( only problem here is flickering )

The issue is on your end. I believe your GPU's are having trouble synchronizing... Have you tried replacing the SLI bridge?

I don't know how disabling SLI on control panel IMPROVES performance...

can you make a video???

I have a SINGLE GTX690 but apparently its a duel card???

I also have this flickering shite

Yeah, I don't know either, but i get a performance boost from sli on, compared to off. Not really cost effective, but very noticeable. I will gladly shut off PIP to keep sli on, but now it works in most vehicles and isn't overwhelming when flickering, like it was in alpha.

So is this issue nvidias fault or BI

So does this mean arma 2 was never sli either??? (Not sure that's all)

I'm not 100% sure what the issue is either so if anyone can help me fix it, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd much prefer running it in SLI(multi-gpu) mode than on single gpu mode.

I am running a single GTX 690 in multi-GPU mode. Here are some screen shots to demonstrate:

I have it currently set to Option C, to disable the multi GPU.

The following are screenshots to show you A3 performance settings and from the helicopter and combined arms showcase start. The FPS counter is on the top left provided by EVGA precision software.

Now if I turn the Nvidia control panel to A: maximize 3d performance (multi-gpu mode). The performance drops even in the menus. You notice that both GPUs are running from the EVGA counter showing GPU usage and memory

I have two 680's and for me mirrors don't flicker but screens do. It makes it impossible to see whats happening on the screen and my solution is to simply not be the gunner in any missions I play. I would have thought this issue would have been resolved by now since I can remember it happening when the alpha first came out.

Just a note about flickering PiP in SLI...I had several different settings in my NVIDIA profile in an effort to gain a few more FPS. I recently installed fresh drivers and left everything at default. I then enabled VSYNC (which I've never had on before) and I've noticed that the flickering in PiP has been completely eliminated. I checked my NVIDIA settings and SLI was still turned on and working. I don't know which one of these things fixed it but I don't have flickering in my PiP screens, could be worth a shot for some of you.

[EDIT]

Tried to turn on vsync ingame settings with default profile in nvidia for arma3.exe but still flickering everywhere.. You changed something else?

This all started because the past few weeks Arma was going black after 10min of play (my temps were all low), minimizing to desktop and I could still hear the game running, it was driving me insane. I updated directx drivers, reset my nvidia profile for arma 3, rolled back to older video drivers, messed with video settings in Arma (BTW, did you know there's a Full-screen window mode? Much nicer then fullscreen mode) I discovered the fix was to underclock both my video cards. During all this I noticed the PiP flickering disappeared. When I turned vsync off (ingame), got out of the vehicle then got back into the vehicle the flickering started again, I turned vsync on, got out of the vehicle then back in, and I noticed the flickering stopped. That's what made me think vsync was stopping the PiP flickering.

Apologies if you already know this but try these things:

1. Update nvidia drivers, ensure old ones are completely wiped out.

2. Update directX drivers (there's an install .exe in your arma 3 folder)

3. Ingame video options turn on fullscreen window option

4. Ingame video options turn on the blurring effects (this was another thing I turned on, that was usually off).

Maybe that will do something to the flickering?
