Mouse issues, hard to aim...

Recommended Posts

Eh... I now remember why I stopped playing FPS.

From the moment I switched from a standard, wired, mouse... you know... the one with the rubber ball inside, to these new optical mice (the one with the flashing red light) everything changed for me.

My desk is has the veins of wood and I think the mouse can never be precise because light is deflected the wrong way. Also... it seems to lag at times not to mention that the hard press of the middle mouse button doesn't work.

I have other mice but they all have this problem with not being precise which messes my aim (and my nerves) big time. I've been playing infantry showcase, elite, all the afternoon and I barely arrived to the village ONCE... and I know it's not my aim that sucks... it's the mouse.

I remember back in the days with this same mouse the pointed was moving by itself... without me touching the mouse I could see the arrow moving from one side of the screen to the other. :)

Now this doesn't seem to happen anymore don't know why (new computer). On the other hand, I tried attaching an A-4 sheet of paper on the desk. It's totally white but the mouse doesn't like it either (it barely moves at all). I also tried photographic paper (from the lucid side) but no good.

What the heck am I supposed to do? I need a quick tip and please don't tell me I need to buy a mouse from the old school because it's sunday. :)

well you could get a quality laser mouse and some mouse pad then you are ready to roll :)

in the meantime try some pad or even old mouse pads they work on optical mouses

Get a good mouse pad that is made for optical mouses, also check that you don't have any hair inside the thing that holds the light/laser.

Not sure which mouse you bought, but even cheap G300/G400 will do just fine. Get a mousepad (like a steelseries qpad for example) and turn the mouse smoothing and acceleration to 0.

I just got a cheap $10 laser mouse. Had the same wooden desk issue. found that a clipboard with a blank sheet of paper works fine as a mousepad, and fixes the problem. But then again I never really had a high quality mouse so maybe I don't know what I am missing.

I would just advice to get a cheap lasermouse and a cheap mousepad for laser mice to get used to the new mice models, I currently have a 70$ Razer Imperator and a 15$ Mouse pad and the difference between that setup and the old ball mice is about as big as the difference between a biplane and a jetfighter.

OP; get a decent mouse & pad or at least the pad. A good mouse setup makes a big difference, not so much for your aim, but helps towards the smooth running of the game.

Setting your mouse up right, can make for better gaming.

Well it looks like this wired optic is not having the wireless lag issues and for some strange reason it doesn't seem inaccurate in its motion. I will get the mat as you suggested though because I am curious now.

I think the prob here is with the FPS, a more fluid game is easier to give you precision while a less fluid one will feel awkward hence difficult to have precision movement.

I have other "issues" with the game will post in new thread. (Not hardware luckily) :)

There's a quick temporary solution for that until you get yourself a decent mousepad. What you can do is find yourself a book or anything that has a pretty even, hard and solid cover. I got a wooden table myself so it did the trick perfectly fine until getting a pad for myself. Had no trouble aiming or what so ever.
