VR motion suit

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just wanted to point out an interesting project on Kickstarter than I think deserver backing and what less than ARMA 3 integration.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yeitechnology/priovr-get-your-ideas-moving

It is still a bit expensive for casual gamer but I bet there are many VR enthusiast, real sim loving gamers and developers who would be willing to splash money on screen for such piece of tech. Even then you will still have to get Oculus and some threadmill like Virtuix.

And what do you think?

PS: This might be wrong section of forum so feel free to move it. (And sorry)

In the future we will probably just send electric signals straight to the brain, just like normal life.

that way you could feel G-forces, pain, seeing, wind, etc etc.

Future looks bright ;)

Couldn't you also use this to record your own animations for Arma 3?

Yes, this can be used for both gaming itself and recording animations or poses for game you are developing.

Interesting indeed but i see one problem: space. Do you have a room big enough to walk across Altis/Chernarus? Take your eyes off the screen and look around you, that's your gaming space. Imagine walking around in ArmA 1/2/3, you'll hit a wall after 3 steps.

Something like this would fit better (don't mind the presented game):

eg8Bh5iI2WY

Still too big but at least capable of walking a infinite virtual space on finite real space.

But still, surely a interesting development, i just don't see it for gaming (yet).

Yeah, my mistake here. I forgot to mention that if you want to use it for gaming then products like Virtuix Omni + Oculus rift together are recommended.

The other option wouldbe above mentioned Omni and Rift without the PrioVR but instead STEM tracking system that is coming to kickstarter the same day ARMA3 releases.

Cyberith Virtualizer is creating a piece of equipment that allows you to walk without walking all over the place. Think of it as those baby carriages that allows the baby to jump and walk all over the place.

So, I thought I better mention that this product has been re-launched on Kickstarter, and this time it's exceeded it's funding goal - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yeitechnology/priovr-suit-up-game-on

I've looked into the quality of the motion tracking, and for the price this really is better than anything else on the market. It even comes bundled with motion tracking software, so indeed it would be great for recording animation that could in theory be used in Arma 3? - Can anyone confirm that this would work? (I might order it if it's true. Free recordings for everyone! :))

In regards to space, it would of course be a problem in any game situation where you have to navigate a large space if the suit takes your physical movement 1:1 into the game - you'd need a massive warehouse just to explore an Altis village! However, I believe there are many ways you can get around this with clever mission design. For instance, find a reason to ensure that the player has to stay in a limited area - a sniper mission in a building could be amazing.

I think this has far more milage than those weird treadmill systems currently coming out - sure, you can explore wider areas, but there certainly isn't any 1:1 motion tracking, so it will just look plain weird and wrong if you happened to look down at your legs (which, in VR, you will).

What are the chances that it's possible to get the full body motion tracking working in real-time in Arma 3, like in their promotional Unity game? They have also said they are developing an SDK for CryEngine. It would be incredible in the Arma 3 engine...

I backed the Kickstarter project, and will have the full 17-sensor motion suit heading my way in the summer :)

When it arrives and I've had a chance to get to grips with the software, I'll post on here to see if anyone wants to try and integrate some groovy mocap animations into their Arma3 missions...

The virtusphere is another solution to the space problem.
