New JTAC Unit - BRAVO BIS!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to stop in and provide some positive feedback. The new JTAC unit is simply awesome. The loadout is just right; laser designator(sparkleme!) various colored smoke rounds/nades and chemlights.. camo beanie and light ruck.

I'm just very impressed. Do you have a military advisor that put this together?

Sierra Hotel BIS!

Edit: Add a Modular Antenna System, Tactical (or MAST, typically 2 thick antenna sticking up from shoulders) to the model, and create a TACP channel so they automatically have a special voice channel to anyone flying and I may just $h1t myself!

I hope that in future we got more of regular JTACs with helmets and without silencers on weapons. But maybe they are part of recon?Well still I prefer to see them as regular soldiers with specilized communication gizmos.

Currently all JTAC in-game are part of Special Forces.

Is recon same as special force or did devs indicated that?

Recon = Special Forces

I'm pretty sure of that. My guess comes from their loadouts and headgear.

I always assumed that reccon means scouting or reconnaissance.

I can only guess but you might be right for all I know.

They're anything but regular soldiers. They're Airforce SpecOps that have to be prepared to deploy with any special team in the service. The Army used to field their own JTACs but now it's AF specialists, though line troops do get qualified to make simple air requests.

Not only do JTACs train with teams like Delta and SEAL alike, but they have to have a very high level of technical proficiency. They may be the most deadly soldier on the battlefield, not only in their personal fighting prowess but because they can get in deep, get eyes on the target, and call in an A-10C or AC-130 (for instance), and rain down hell with pinpoint accuracy. Mix an Air Traffic Controller with an Olympic Athlete, a Military Strategy Expert, a Wilderness Guide, and a Computer Programmer.. and you begin to arrive at a JTAC.

I think you are confused and here is why,

JTAC is a qualification course that is hosted by the airforce its not a mos.

TACP is an job in the air force that is similar to Jtac they work with various units and have the same capabilities as JTACs and a few more.

CCT is the premiere job in air craft control forward of friendly lines. CCT's have all capabilities of setting up DZ'S LZ's PZ's and also controlling air space and much more. The Jtac role evolved from the need of CCT and TACP there was not enough to go around.

Yeah.. I think you're correct about TACP.. take a look at the USAF TACP link at the bottom of my post. The unit is called JTAC in Arma3 and I think it's an appropriate term, so avoiding semantics, the terms are used synonymously here.

But.. let's explore the semantics:

- JTAC(Joint Terminal Air Controller): Although this term previously described any individual in the service who is qualified for this duty, for the last decade the use of Air Force personnel deployed with teams from the various services has been the preference(keyword is Joint). This is indeed a qualification not an individual, though in the Military individuals are usually referred to by their function or quals... such as SEALs. These individuals are typically deployed with line units, but can also be deployed with JSOC teams.

- CCT(Combat Control Team): USAF Special Forces that provide communication and Air Traffic Control from the battlefield.. they also provide 'Terminal' control for the precision delivery of munitions. They're not always qualified as JTAC, but are always deployed with JSOC teams.

- TACP(Tactical Air Control Party Specialist): Team of JTAC and his assistant(ROMAD)

- FAC(Forward Air Controller): Old term for JTAC before the CAS role was refined and organized to be controlled more by the USAF instead of inner service qualification and cooperation

- AFAC(Airborne Forward Air Controller): A pilot or crewman that serves as a FAC, but while airborne instead of operating on the ground

So what we arrive at is this: TACP is the team. JTAC is the qualification of a person on the TACP team (they're the only ones can say 'cleared hot'). CCT are part of JSOC, but JTACs are also deployed with JSOC. Basically they're the same as far as the simulation world is concerned, and BIS is calling the troop a JTAC, which I think is just fine. If people in the Army and Marines are still confused about the distinction, I think we can give the BIS Devs a pass on this one. ;)

AHHHH I see what you did there your using it as a term to reference all of them not the specific units/ people. I get it now yes that does make it simpler.
