Updated missions for download

Well I got around to updating my missions.  Most of them should work with Resistance, but the RTS2 missions do not.

There are about 86 missions in here.  For those of you who like Realistic coops, then my coops may not be for you.  Most of them have respawn for the players, and some of them are massive battles where suriviving long is not an option.

Basically I added HALO drops to several of the CH and CTF missions.  For those of you that don't know, HALO means High Altitude Low Opening.  In other words when you get above 200m altitude in a chopper or a plane and then the HALO drop option appears, you click it and freefall until you choose "Deploy Chute".  Then your parachute will open.  Don't wait to long or you'll splat.  There's an altimeter that tells you how high (or low) you are.  There are a couple of bugs with it, namely the HALO drop option may stay on vehicles even after it lands.  I'm working on that.  It's pretty cool to freefall from 1000m up or so and deploy the chute about 75m from the ground.

Otherwise, most of the updates are just minor bug fixes and such.

There aren't any Resistance vehicles in the missions just to keep them compatible with regular opflash.  I'll try to update with new vehicles later, but now I just want to keep it backwards compatible until more ppl get Resistance.

Here's the key for my mission naming:

CTF - Capture the Flag

CH - Capture and Hold

TDM - Team Deathmatch with objectives

DD - Defend and Destroy buildings

C - Coop

C01-C09 - a mini multiplayer campaign

RTS-Real time strategy, you build up a base, build vehicles, and try to capture territory for money.

RTS2 - Similar to RTS, but instead the goal is to destroy the enemy base.  This one is a bit more advanced than RTS 1 was.

I updated several more missions and added a new one

CTF_AIR WAR. This one also has HALO drops in it.

I also tried to weed out a few missions that were outdated or older ones that had been renamed but not deleted.

*UPDATE*

I've added RTS2-RESISTANCE-NOGOVA and CTF_R_NOGOVA AIR BATTLE to the zip. I'll be adding more Resistance missions to this zip as I make them. Since I'm planning on converting my server to Resistance sometime this week, I hope to have a decent amount of them out.

If you see _R_ in the title of the mission, it means that it only works in Resistance, probably because I've added new Resistance vehicles to it. All of the others except for the MALDEN, EVEON and KOLGUJEV RTS2 missions will work fine in Resistance.

I've added 4 more new Nogova missions to the zip. Now there are 2 Cap and Holds and 4 CTF missions on Nogova.

I also made some minor updates to the other existing missions.

Sorry about that. I try to stay on top of any bugs or issues that players report to me, and I've been getting requests for more Nogova missions, so I'm trying to keep up with everything.

If anyone spots any bugs or has additions, etc. that they'd like to see let me know.

I'm curious as to whether anyone is finding the HALO Drops that I've added in to some of the missions useful.

Good misisons but extremely heavy on the CPU's. You should consider making versions of the missions where respawn is not needed (meaning less AI resistance). smile.gif

Also, in the second coop 1-6 misison on everon you left some radio calls in, it was pretty funny, I got transported to the evac zone when the mission was 1/2 done. So I stole the UH60 and blasted some tanks... then the Mi came so I had to bail but saved the chopper... later we Lawd the Mi and attacked a city with the UH60, rearmed and repaired... and so on and so on.

And the boats in the first everon C 1-6 mission do not let the AI disembark.

Yep I don't know why it doesn't make AI disembark automatically from the boat. That's a waypoint and if you're the commander then you have to command them out.

Also, what mission are you talking about with the UH60? Are you saying I left a debug radio msg in there? I haven't worked on those missions for several months, mainly because I only created them when there was no dedicated server that worked well and I hosted games with some ppl. I was doing a mini-MP campaign, but never finished it.

And which missions are CPU heavy? I know that Laser Tag and Crater are because after 1.4 came out the AI controlled LGB's for some reason got really CPU intensive. I used to be able to play that mission on my dedicated server, but after 1.4, it lagged the server CPU too much.

No I can't even get the AI to disembark as commander! <!--emo&smile.gif

It's one of the coop missions on Everon, yep u left 2 debug radio calls. The one where u have to blow up 2 places and evacuate.

Seriously, all the coop misions I tried, were EXTREMELY cpu heavy, bringing all systems down to about 5 frames. Especially the Coop in Petrovice, wehere u have spetsnats parachutting constantly.

I find you have an extremely high amount of AI resistance in coop misions. I know that in real life the Soviets would have even more, but in the missions it kills the framerates and uses respawn all the time.

Oh there is Onslaught (Soviet), Onslaught (NATO), and then there's C_Last Stand and C_Resist. Those are CPU heavy by design, mainly because I wanted some large scale invasions. If you don't have a decent CPU, then you'd be better off playing them via a dedicated server, since the server should take most of the load then. We play those a lot on my dedicated and even ppl with slower PC's are able to play ok then.

Most of the missions that begin with C01-C09 are not as bad since I limited their scope quite a bit.

The mission with the boat--is that Birdcage? I'm not sure what the issue with them disembarking is, but I suppose I'll just rig a trigger to force them out.

As of now I have only 1 coop for Resistance. The rest are from regular opflash. The only one that might give you CPU issues would be Birdcage. Laser Tag and Crater might also, I dunno. The rest should be ok.

wow.gif

Well, we have quite good CPU's and a dedicated server. If I had a 1Gz and no ded server I wouldn't be saying this, but your coop missions ARE TOO CPU HEAVY. smile.gif i wan't you to at least understand that I'm not joking.

Doesn't matter to me if you change them, but it should to you.

Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I make missions that I enjoy playing. I've worked a bit to change some things on the missions to make them less CPU intensive, but in order to have a large scale invasion, it's just unavoidable. I wanted to play a mission with a large scale invasion, but there wasn't really one like what I envisioned, so I made one. Most of my MP missions I make them easily playable CPU-wise and vidcard-wise, but there are some that will have greater resource minimums.

In order to somewhat alleviate the problem on some missions, I started using a squad creation script that will create any type of squad I want and then command them to certain positions, etc. This helps some, but when you get an Mi17 dropping 12 paratroopers, 2 T80's, 2 BMP's and a T72 charging at a city with screaming civilians running around (as in C_RESIST) then it will most definitely lag anything less than a 1ghz with a GF3 Ti500.

I run an Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53 GHz),1.5GB DDR RAM with a Geforce 4 Ti4600 128 MB DDR RAM at 1600x1200x32 with all the eye candy on, and I love playing these large scale missions a lot. My server is a Athlon XP 1900+ with 1.5GB DDR RAM and it seems to run them pretty well for everyone. Yes, some players complain, but most have told me that it is smooth for them, and those are the majority of players that I'm aiming for.

I wish that I could make them less CPU intensive and still have the same type of battle, but I haven't gotten it to work like that yet.

If you want some specially scaled-down versions, then I could probably send you the source and let you do what you wish.

I'll take a look at using the squad creation scripts more effectively. I do know that when they activate, they drain some CPU cycles, so they have to be timed right. The issue is timing that right and then not having too many enemies on the screen at once. Given the nature of AI, and how they tend to try to stay alive, it can be hard to get timing on something like this correct. =)

*UPDATE*

There are now 14 Nogova CTF missions, 3 Nogoval Cap and Hold missions and 1 Coop mission on Nogova included in the mission pack.

As usual, no unofficial addons were used in the making of these missions.

A couple of the missions are sort of experimental, where I took some buildings and tried to create more rooftop battles, as in CTF_R_SKYSCRAPERS, and I made one named CTF_R_MOTORCYCLE MADNESS with some extra bridges and ramps just for the fun of it.

Been a while since I updated the mission pack, but here it is again.

I reworked the way the CTF script works for the Nogova CTF's so that it won't be as much of a stalemate as it can be sometimes. If you take the enemy flag and hold it for at least 15 seconds, then your team gets a point. Also the msg that you've taken the flag is not broadcast to the enemy until after that 15-second period, so that gives you some time to get away. For capping the flag your team gets 5 points. Also, if you get killed with the flag, it doesn't return to the flagpole for 20 seconds, so if you had someone helping you, they could pick it up and score, possibly. I also updated the outro so the loser has to do pushups for the winner. biggrin.gif

There are now 16 Nogova CTF's, 8 Nogova Coops, and 3 Nogova CnH's.

There's a total of around 113 missions in this zip. It also includes RTS2 missions.
