ACRE would be overkill for a large portion of the playerbase. The players who do want ACRE are serious Arma players and thus willing and capable of installing the mod themselves, so not including it in Arma 3 is a minor inconvenience. Including it, on the other hand, would make the game more complicated to learn (not always a bad thing, but unnecessary complications should be avoided) and require a lot of extra work from the devs.

^^What about basic functionality? I mean players learned to use in-game voip, what would really change if ACRE like system was implemented? They would still press CAPS or whatever their binding is to talk, only difference is they wouldn't need to press anything in order to talk to a guy next to them. Is it really that complicated? I find it even simpler than having to switch chat channels... Of course, they would have to learn a few bits if short-mid-long range radios were implemented, but I don't think it's a problem as long as the game teaches you how to use that stuff. Don't underestimate newcomers, most of them are aware that Arma is more complicated than other shooters and they actually do expect complexity to some extent but the problem starts when game doesn't teach you how to use all the stuff in it.

After all, you can still use TS if you don't like that, they could probably retain voip as it currently is as well along the suggested system.

I don't mean learning ACRE is a huge hurdle, just that it's slightly more complicated. The main issues I have with it are the time (and likely money to license Teamspeak) Bohemia will have to invest and the requirement of a Teamspeak server. If the new version doesn't require Teamspeak then it would help a lot in changing my mind, but I hadn't hear that until reading this thread.

Here is how it can be done easy.

1. Game option "VoIP radio distortion";

2. If you are close to the speaker (within 10m) you hear his normal voice (on VoIP);

3. If you are far from speaker and both you and him have radio in inventory, you hear radio distorted voice plus radio beeps.

It's really a matter of ONE DAY or less of development time. I did this for a Teamspeak addon, I could give BIS the source code without any obligation, if they cannot handle. All ACRE features would take much longer. But we could have at least something like this, there is a big immersivity step forward.

Unfortunately the gist of what I saw in another thread is that BI doesn't really accept community contributions like that...

Of course..BI is getting bigger only to work on more titles and not to have more manpower to work for ArmA3 delivering the game of the century.

They already use manpower to deliver a game of the century: Take on Mars ;)

Thread duty: yes, I'd like to see ACRE features in the core game.
