302_GySgt.Casey 0 Posted July 27, 2002 lets say that ur flying and u get into a crash that you might be able to live through. but in the game when u hit the ground and ur automaticaly dead. is their a script or a mod that u might be able to live through a crash of a plane or a helo. I also know that if u get into a plane crash that ur almost cretainly dead but its not grainteed that ur goiing to die.

bn880 5 Posted July 27, 2002 When an aircraft explodes you are toast, in OFP too, but if you jump just before hitting the ground, and the aircraft doesn't explode near you, you do survive in OFP. I see no problems with it... I'v been in alot of crashes in OFP and it seems fine.
Placebo 29 Posted July 27, 2002 What's he's asking is how can he have it so that there's a plane crash and the character survives. Right?
Stag 0 Posted July 27, 2002 You mean a crash landing, rather than failing to miss the ground? Why bother, if you can eject?

302_GySgt.Casey 0 Posted July 27, 2002 the eject only works if ur high in the air but ur dead if ur flying less then 100m (or ft) im not flooding so dont close this down
Guest Posted July 27, 2002 You cannot survive yourself, but you can make any other unit (then the player) survive by resetting its damage. Perhaps even the player can be resurrected by using some form of respawn, I don't know. Anyhow, this is scripting which is Mission Editing, so that's where I'm moving it
RedStorm 0 Posted July 27, 2002 Well, it would be really cool if BIS could implement a 'survival chance system' in elicopters (helicopters only mind you, you often dont surive a crash with a fully loaded/fueled A10 Thunderbolt II ), but like I said, it would be cool to have a survival ratio which could check how fast you hit the ground and then consider your survival chances (hit the ground at 200+ mph, no chances of survival, hit the ground at 200mph, 10%, hit the ground at 100mph 30%, hit the ground at 80mph 50%, hit the ground at 60 mph 70% etc. etc.)
friendlyfire 0 Posted July 27, 2002 crash landing survivability is a nice idea, perhaps a more realistic way to access it would be on accelerations and the durations of those acclerations. This would allow high speed skimming through bushes/small trees, but still give a fatal for a 60 kph vertical into ground.
edc 0 Posted July 27, 2002 Isn't some body making a Blackhawk down campaign? How are they letting people survive the chopper crashes. Also why is eject on planes like you had to eject in WW2, It doesn't shoot you up like modern ejection seats.
FSPilot 0 Posted July 28, 2002 You can crash a plane in OPF without dying. I havent' done it (don't really want to), but I'm sure that it's possible. Just take as little damage as possible during the crash. If you're spinning into the ground at 300 knots, you're not going to survive, but if you gently do a belly landing on a road or something, you could make it. suchey 0 Posted July 28, 2002 you MAY be able to accomplish this by starting a setdammage loop for the pilot as soon as the air vehicle takes enough dammage to fail. In other words, set a getdammage trigger for the air unit and when the dammage reaches a certain point, start a loop which continuously sets the damage of the pilot to 0...dont know if this would work or not, but it might. ANother idea would be to 'warp' the player out of the chopper before it is destroyed using setpos, then warp him back to a position near the chopper...you could even change the annimation so the player was laying on the ground. Not sure if either of these would work, but just a couple of ideas.

And another idea, wouldnt it be better that helicopters, just like tanks and trucks, could "run over" trees (I mean, makig them fall down when they hit them). It just doesn't seem very realistic that a Blackhawk going around 300 mph crashes into a tree and the tree just remains standing. Maybe this could be fixed too. Oh, and another thing, I think you should be able to run over trees in a forest, although I think the current engine won't allow things like this...oh well, Suma, are you reading all this? EDIT: as to edc's question: You do shoot up in the air, the ejection seat just isn't modeled. Try it: Take an A10 and fly up to, let's say, 700 feet. Press eject. You'll see that you shoot up into the air.
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted July 28, 2002 If a blackhawk flyes into a tree with 300 mph, it doesnt really matter if u knowck down the tree or not, u wouldnt live to tell.
RedStorm 0 Posted July 28, 2002 ...but you wouldn't bounce back either.
_Hekler_ 0 Posted August 2, 2002 You can survive an eject from about 5 meters/feet (what eva you use) I have done it tonnes of times. But if the plane/heli explodes next to you you'er toast. Also try ejecting just before you hit a tree. If you have enough speed you will be launched at the speed you were traveling. I have seen some very weird stuff happen when crashing aircraft.
