Mg-3 machinegun

Recommended Posts

here are a couple of shots. I did NOT make this model. So credit goes to Chavez for that. But I did skin it. Keep in mind that while its not visible in these shots, alpha channels are going to be used. Also its likely that this will still go through a bit of changes before its released.

Check em out.

One thing as far as realism goes, there should probably be a drum, or ammo box of some kind connected to the gun itself.

Yeah your probably right. But I didnt model it and I really dont know much about our plans with it beyond this. I do know that it will be available soon. The guys been hounding me to do this. So their pretty enthusiastic about it. I will question them on the ammo box.

It looks more like an Mg42. Shouldn't an Mg3 have smaller air-vents?

Weee.... 1200 rpm!

I remember Skaven made one for his Pakistan Infantry pack. But i wasnt realistic or good looking (no offence, and nice try for a p3d-edited weapon) and it only had about 800-900 rpm, and the sound kinda was lame, ever heard a MG-3? you shit your pants if you hear it Fullauto...

It can go up to 1800 rpm if you change the firing pin (or whatever it's called smile.gif). Imagine what soldiers in WWII must've felt when they got under fire of one of those babies (technically it were Mg42's back then, but Mg42 are almost identical to Mg3's smile.gif)

Yes I hear they do have an insane rate of fire. However Im quite unfirmiliar with their operation. there isnt an apparent gas tube. So how exactly do they cycle?

I spoke to Chavez about it. But I didnt quite get the jist of what Chavez was talking about in the way of its operation. I noticed that the gas systems of many firearms are purposly made inefficient. So it seems that there is a lot of power that isnt utilized in cycling the guns. How is this accounted for with the mg3/42? What keeps it from blowing apart? anyone care to enlighten me?

If you allow me...  wink.gif

MG series uses rollers for locking ( unlinke HK guns that use rollers for delaying the opening process ).

Unlocking is achieved by a short rear barrel move.

Cyclic rate of fire is 1200 rounds per minute for the MG 42, 850 for the MG-3 ( approximately for both, and bullet weight and cartridge power does affect the rpm ), there is a model called MG42/59 wich is a MG 42 reconditionned to 7.62x51 ( .308 ) NATO ammo. That model exists with both rate of fire.

With a MG-3 you can swith from 850 to 1200 RPM by changing the bolt with the one of the fastest MG 42/58.

Changing RPMs is achieved by bolt weight. Low rpm => heavier bolt, highest rpm => lighter bolt.

The MG is fed by a drum magazine containing 50 rounds or free belts ( better, because the beast is voracious tounge.gif )

The accuracy is excellent, as a VERY good AR could be ( in burst, yes...) ; reliability...well...is better possible ? ; and stability in burst and sustained burst ( for modelling dispersion effect in OFP wink.gif ) is so good you cannot imagine you're firing full auto big cartridges, that your MG is not fixed with a mount and welded to concrete !

Believe me wink.gifsmile.gif

My thoughts ...

Only drawback, the barrel is thin compared to HK21. ( but as good as M-60 or FN MAG )

Continuous fire => after 150 rounds, change the barrel or it will melt !

Sustained fire => be quiet...and 300 rounds or so will go without dammage.

-- high RPM -- => The best machinegun, and one of the top most efficient and devastative weapon ever made.....all categories considered.

HK 21 is good also, the second surely, but compared to the MG 42 and followers...

The MG 42/ MG-3 inspired Spanish AMELI ( 5.56x45/.223 )is a damned good piece also....

In fact the MG3 has 1200rpm whereas the MG42 has 1500rpm.

The ROF increases though with longer bursts, its said up to 1800rpm. [EDIT] (for the MG42) [/EDIT]

850rpm is the ROF of the MG74 ( I think or 79 or...lol) of the Austrian army.

One can change the ROF with the bolt, thats right but most countries only have one bolt type.

Hmm,the barrel isnt too thin, its the ROF which is too high.

But it got a very good & quick barrel change smile.gif

When shooting with the MG42 it´s getting faster and faster because it´s loaded up by the repulsion. The repulsion pushs on a small feather. After every shoot the loading force gets bigger and bigger because you must add the power stored in the feather to the power of the repulsion.

So starting with 1200 rpm it can reach up to 1800 rpm. Then ammo is out or the barrel´s melted away...

The MG3 has instead of the feather a massive iron bolt where the repulsion pushs on.

So it keeps it 1200 rpm.

he MG3 keeps ith RPM.

A question for all of you MG3/MG42 gurus:

How do you find GFX707's MG42 addon? Is it realistic?

It's totally realistic...too bad the models and sounds are directly copied from DoD wink.gif

Hmmm, I dont like the sound. Its unrealistic.

It just doesnt sound like a MG42. I was very disappointed when I heared it in DoD the first time confused.gif

But there is a sound mod (or its the map, dont know; I heard it on the Overlord-type map...) for RTCW which is great.

If anyone wants it, I have the MG-42 sound sampled from Saving Private Ryan. I was using it as part of my Omaha Beach landing mission along with other samples from the movie's audio. Just email me if you want it.

Well, I found the most realistic MG-42 was Steele's one.

It was called MG42/58, sound was fine, dispersion fine - just a very little to wide - ( And....now that others machineguns from bis are so accurate and do not move any more while firing, works like star wars laser guns....everything around is wrong of course... sad.gif ). But the 3D model was the one of the PK.

I believe that now Steele'sArmoury is down, you can find it at OFP CZ.

If you don't, someone who's got a webspace and interested, call me I'll mail it.

( Have to do the flash bug fix also for OFP:R )

a standard MG3 (MG62 is it called) is typical fireing at  1200rpm when clean and sometimes drop to 1100rpm
