Ghost recon and ofp

Recommended Posts

Well I've already bought OFP (I was one of the first a year ago) and I just got Resistance. I live in Africa though (I'm on vacation in the US this summer) and I'm planning to buy one tactical FPS and those 3d glasses things while I'm here. So... the question is should I buy Ghost Recon? Now be sure to understand this, I ALREADY have OFP and Resistance and I think they are great. But I want to buy one tactical FPS while I'm here because I can't in Africa (for obvious reasons). If I shouldn't buy GR what tactical FPS should I get? Thanks. I'd like alot of opinions here (think 5-10).

hhmm..why don't you download Ghosr Recon(GR) demo first and give it a shot?

my opinion is that GR is good for small tactical game, in CQB, with some outdoors. Not as big as OFP's area, but with enough little details to make it fun.

From top of my head, GR seems to be the only FPS other than OFP that is worth putting money into. Or give a shot at Soldier of Fortune 2. very bloody.

and I think this thread belongs more in off-topic forum smile.gif

Ill second that motion.

Why dont you try MOHAA (medal of honor allied assualt). It doesnt have much blood but its nice graphics.

Also try Alien vs Predator 2. Its a really fun game. Lots of blood and gore there. Thats really all i can think about. Oh and America's army.

Hope that helps.

Both excel at what they are trying to model. OFP is a great sim of combined arms in a huge battle field while GR is a very detailed sim of small group special operations. Neither is 'better' than the other unlike the fanboys of either game would say.

GR's environment is smaller than OFP, but it very much more detailed, both visually and orally. Also you don't have as much control over the ai and are expected to be a little more hands on than OFP. Overall I love both games.

As a fan of the Rainbow Six series from Redstorm, I was extremely dissappointed by Ghost Recon. confused.gif

Save your money and wait for Raven's Shield... wink.gif

Ghost Recon was good but without any of the scope of ofp. Very pretty though, you'll play it through in about a week and then never bother with it again. its kinda short lived - still worth it if you can find it cheap.

I saw a secret service type game in a store the other day (in my insane search for OFPR), where you play a CIA operative guarding VIPs etc.

Does anyone know what this game is, and if it was any good?

I think VIP is one of those budget shooters for people who don't want to splurge on a real-man's game (OFP & Resistance Expansion)

Ghost Recon is fun but only for about a week. I haven't tried it on Multiplayer but I assume it would be fun. Again the single player is only cool for a week. Desert Siege has some nice maps and was cool to play after seeing BHD and the Pictures from Operation Anaconda. The not-being-able-to-see-the-gun thing doesn't bother me too much.

Again, If you can find it for under 30 bucks, pick it up. I bought mine from CDAccess.com and it was like 29.99 w/o shipping + handling.

It depends where your primary interest are; singleplayer, multiplayer, CQB, realistic approach etc.

Ghost Recon (GR) is quite limited if you are used to huge outdoor environments, especially as the emphasis for GR is set too on outdoor action, although the rather small mapsizes are more than sufficent in multiplayer.

The Sum of all Fears (SOAF) uses the GR engine, outdoor is switched for indoor action and might justify the rather small mapsizes.

In my oppinion it SOAF doesn´t reach up to the original Rainbow6, although it gives you better graphics and more movement options, however rainbow6 should be on budget.

SWAT3 is also an excellent CQB tactical shooter, with limitations in Multiplayer.

The real blockbuster and innovation however is scheduled for November; R6:Raven Shield. It uses the latest unreal Warfare engine, awesome physics engine, 1st person weapon models, extreme high control over character movement, about 50 weapons to choose from, with option of attaching lasers, flashlights and optics to them.

Wow!. I'm Amazed. i've found myself in another forum where people only like the game of topic!. How do I keep doing this??!.  tounge.gif

Major Fubar. that CIA operative looks like an 8~week old leg of pork to me.

Sum of all fears out?. I never even heard about it!. whats it like?. anyone played it?.

How can you tell him to wait and save his money?!. would you?. Did you?! tounge.gif ...

If you got to have a game. you wont be pissed off you brought GR. its just a bit short IMO. the Friendly~AI are a bit useless sometimes too.

If you buy any game thats been mentioned. GR, AVP2, MoHAA, SoF2. you'll be happy enough. fuck it! buy them all!!. I Did!! wink.gif ...

i think people here are harsh on ghost recon

i thought it was quite good, but i agree once u have finished it (and its short) there isnt much replay value

so if u can get it for cheap, get it, its a good diversion, it will keep u entertained for its duration

medal of honour on the other hand, my god that was such a poor game. why do people like it, there was only one good level- the beach landing, which was over real quick. besides that its just the same old going through the (boring) motions blah blah shoot everyone while running around and u are almost invulnerable, it totally sucks. i got so bored of it, i just finished it for the sake of it.

i hear sum of all fears is like ghost recon, stripped of the team management ! which in my opinon sucks, its bad enough in ghost recon they removed waypoints and go codes etc (but dont worry its not _that_ bad u can still switch between teams and position them/hold fire etc and then give the fire command to mow down bases etc) but i hear in sum of all fears its just you and a few ai soldiers to back you up (no switching between teams etc). more indoors stuff too i hear?

mm im waiting for ravenshield too smile.gif

I forgot to add that I haven't bought Rogue Spear. Is that a better game than GR?

Rouge Spear kicked some serious ass in Multiplayer. Im not sure how many people still play it but it is a lot of fun. Especially in COOP. There are also lots of sweet mods for it now. It should only be like 19.99 in most stores now. Its a good buy. The graphics are fairly nice also. It ran smooth on a

For me both ghost recon and desert siege was worth the money, but yet again I`m a RS buff and I really wanted to

get my hands on the latest redstorm\ubi games..and

overall I was happy with them...the graphics and the sound

was very nice and the maps was just big enough imo ( you only got a max of 6 men so...)

I saw soldier of fortune 2 at a friends house because I didn`t

like the first one, but since it got some good reviews I would

consider trying it out, but I won`t it`s just run and gun.., but

on the other hand I do play MOH both single and multiplayer....will only play singleplayer once though but I like

the multiplayer...I usually never play those games but I need

something to play while I wait for " Battlefield 1942 " ,

" Raven shield " and ( H&D2 ) I got really high hopes

for the last two :=) and I basically don`t play that much OPF

online because it didn`t prove out to support as many players

as I hoped for without lag....though OPF coop without lag

is a blast.....and of course a little of topic I`ve almost given

up playing RS online because of the ***** 3rd person view..... I HATE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
