CAN ARMA3 display video data (GPS, Vehicle Camera, instruments, etc) onto 2nd monitor

Recommended Posts

i was wondering with

this screenshot..

http://www.arma3.com/images/screenshots/large/arma3_screenshot_04.png (1558 kB)

can the data such as this vehicle camera, or even the gps, or the MAP!!! be displayed on a 2nd monitor aside from the 1sr/3rd person view?

i would like to build a cockpit setup in manner that i can view separate data on to a second monitor (i know falcon bms, or the digital combat simulator series have this capability)

it would be awesome if Arma3 has this feature...

if not, please make arma3 oculus compatible.. :)

Woops, misread. Though I will say that chances of GPS and other advanced avionics are not likely for default birds as far as digital displays go, there information will likely be kept to the HUD.

well I would want the GPS data or MAP data be displayed on a second monitor when playing as a soldier in the 1st/3rd person view.... its more productive to see the map at the same time as the character view, i hate having to press M just to pull up the map ... would also help when using vehicles...

Since Arma 3 has Render-to-Texture, it could be possible.

But I guess you'll have to wait until the alpha and if they alpha/full game doesn't have that feature, then I guess it it possible to be added as mod

Damn, if I could have the map open on my second monitor while I play, I'd probably die from contentment.

Seriously this would be awesome -- if it's not in the alpha modders should get on this right away specially if render to texture makes it possible.

i have a 27" monitor and a small 7" i would love to have the 7" LCD display the gps while in soldier mode, and the weapon camera in vehicle mode..

I've done this in MS Flight Simulator. The main monitor is for the 3d view and the 2nd monitor for the instruments.

+1 for the Idea, especially for targeting or navigation.

Btw, there is a ArmA 2 Folding Map Addon which is a bit more realistic than having a map on a second monitor that doesn't affect your visibility at all.

THIS IS Cool, but i want to make use of 2nd monitor, other than just expanded field of view...

Wow I've never seen that before in Arma. Given the focus on realism you'd think this would be on the "to implement" list for BIS. If anyone has ever played Far Cry 2 (and I have, a lot) this was done very well. The whole game you were ever only in First Person mode - and when in a vehicle even you could unfold your map in 3D space in your lap to read. Here's a screenshot.

On topic: this would be so great especially given how cheap you could pick up a 15" square LCD

(This will be a shameless plug - check my sig)

It is technicaly possible in Arma2, and the main modding facility to allow it has been confirmed not to have been removed in A3, with reserves since it is also said not to have been tested.

I can't tell about the other data you want to have in the 2nd monitor, i will have my hands full in bringing the Map there, since I intended to open source it, maybe someone else will be able to pick the effort too.

EDIT:

Having understood better what OP asks, i'll have to say that what is currently possible in A2 is to send relevant data to be later displayed in a suitable way. Direct video data "streaming" to an external mod extension is not possible, afaik.

But we could in theory reproduce whatever graphics are used in-game, and display the data accordingly, as long as the required data itself is accessible through scripting.

Now that would be awesome. I have always wondered why no game to this day has implemented that. So many of us have more than 1 monitor. To be able to use 1 screen for the map etc would be great. The idea of being able to perhaps even move it to your laptop or any other external computer is epic.

Play with a 3 monitor setup and have a laptop with the map.. yes, YES!

Filed Bug #0005745 "Allow Map or GPS on Second Dual Monitor"

http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=5745

I will bet anybody any sum of money, the developers are already fully exploiting the usage of dual monitors. ;-) ...it's a coding thang. Also, multiple monitor setups are quite common nowadays!

Even the people in finance, who know nothing about computers, use multiple monitors numbering to the maximum number of around six monitors per computer. :-/

Would really love to have this feature implemented on the Beta/Final versions of ArmA3!
