Delta Hawk 1829 Posted February 22, 2013 Which method is better for performance? Have a model with 4 2048x2048 textures or a model with 1 4096x4096?
max power 21 Posted February 22, 2013 Depending on their texture settings, users may not see the 4k at full res. I'm not sure how 2048's scale.
Binkowski 26 Posted February 23, 2013 I have always used 2048x2048 for all addons I've made. I have also messed around with the possibility of a 4096x4096 tex. The thing I don't like about it is you get an almost.. 'super detailed' effect to your characters. Seeing all the way down to the cotton material (at a distance, not just close up when you are supposed to see it). But this is just my opinion. I know Fox'09 used 4096 textures. Have a look at his units in game to compare.
Delta Hawk 1829 Posted February 23, 2013 I mean like with my soldiers, i have 1 2048x2048 texture set with _co,_as,_nohq and _smdi for the uniform, another 1 2048x2048 texture set for the LC2 gear, another 1 2048x2048 for the LBV vest, another 1 2048x2048 for the M203 vest (which I don't really care bout that since only one unit wears it and in fact it's not common in real life) plus 1 1024x1024 for the pasgt flak jacket and another 1 1024x1024 for the helmet. That's a lot of textures, so I thought about merging the textures, aleast the uniform, the LC2, the LBV vest, pasgt vest, helmet and misc items into one gaint 4096x4096 texture instead of having...about...hell i can't count them. Delta Hawk 1829 Posted February 24, 2013 I'm not saying put diffuse, normal, as and spec on one texture, but all the diffuse on one texture file, all the normals on one texture .etc.
