Inshadow   0 Posted July 5, 2002 Does anyone know if it will ever be possible to join an ongoing game? And why isn't this possible already? As I see it... it could be one of the major reasons that Operation Flashpoint isn't very popular as an online multiplayer game. Sometimes it's very nice just to take a quick game... join a game and then play for 20-30minutes. But this isn't very easy with OperationFlashpoint as it is right now - you have to wait for a server waiting for players... and I prefer one with a okay ping. When you compare the new game "America's Army" with Operation Flashpoint, it has cirka 10 times gamers online. Greetings, Inshadow
Placebo   31 Posted July 5, 2002 Not possible, never will be possible without a massive rewrite of the game engine, and at risk of sounding like a snobbish old tart I'll say that the kind of people that make AA so popular are the CS type crowd which really aren't welcome in Opf anyways, IHMO
Harnu   0 Posted July 5, 2002 I used to play CS.  But then it sucked.  It was fun at first.  But then people took it sooo seriously.  The "clan" I was in, was so serious.  Anyone caught cheating in their clan were booted from then on never existed.  Then everyone with the 1337 crap.  Only 1 update every year and a half.  I'm not going to include cheating.  Every MP game has cheaters.  I don't care about them.  What does piss me off, is the semi-legal agreements you HAVE to agree to in order to play on most servers.  CSGaurd witch sometimes bans you for files that aren't hacking files...  But what's just as bad is the people who never grow up in that game.  Every time, you can't go 1 round of CS without hearing one childish person go "HE'S CHEATING!".  Or rather in CS- "}{3'5 (}{3@t|/\/9". Then horrible recoil thats not realsitic. No vehicles. (Well there are ones, but HL Engine is soo glitchy you can't move in them without getting killed most of the time) Grenades you can throw 100 yards... Are you sure? I think it's bad that this game should only appeal to a specific kind of gamers when it comes to online gaming. OFP could so easily have become much more popular, if the online part was much more easy to use. The option of joing in an ongoing game, would of course not be ideal for all game-modes (probably not co-op), but some of the game-modes like CTF and those Capture and Hold like game-modes needs this very much IMHO. If you're late and they just started, you can ask politely if they might go back for you. If they won't and you're a regular another regular can msn or icq you once the next round is about to start. Also just learn to have some patience. Do something else while you wait for the next game or look for another server. I play mostly Coop, where the team factor (and continuity) is even more important during a game then it is in (public - not clan) CTF or TDM matches. Still, even for those kind of games join-in-progress is something I'd consider at least annoying. So I'm happy that BIS hasn't (and hopefully never will) implemented this.
