finguide 1 Posted November 12, 2012 I've recently got NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Kit (with IR emitter and Vision 2 glasses) and Asus VG278HE 144 Hz screen. My problem is that I can see the 3D test pictures without problems, but when I turn the 3D mode on in game, I can see the 3D effect somehow but I see ghosting too. The ghosting makes the picture to look very bad, I can barely look at the screen with glasses. Is it common problem caused by ArmA itself or just something wrong with my software or hardware? The screen is manually set to 120 Hz. A2 config files have been tweaked to 120 Hz (cfgs are in "read only" format). Shadows are set to Normal, post-process effects are disabled. CPU: i5-3570k GPU: GTX 670 OS: Win7 64-bit GPU driver package: GeForce 306.23 (tried with 306.97 too) Thanks in advance, finguide
Leon86 13 Posted November 13, 2012 I'd turn shadows off or set them to high. anyway, is it ghosting or some really weird artifacts? also, is vsync on? I guess it should force that automatically but I'd check nontheless.
finguide 1 Posted November 14, 2012 Thanks for your reply Leon86, I think it is ghosting because I can recognize the objects from the "ghosted areas". For example if I use my gun iron sight, I can see the left side of iron sight on left side of the sight and the right side of the sight on right side of the sight. (Lol, what a sentence) I've tried all shadow settings, the recommended setting by NVIDIA for shadows is Normal. I've tried with Vsync on and off, with no difference. -=seany=- 5 Posted November 14, 2012 That sounds more like your using depth settings that are too extreme than ghosting. Or perhaps you need to set the convergence more towards your monitors "screen plane" than "into" the monitor. Eg so that things close to your screen ( like Iron sights etc) are at the center of convergence. If that makes sense...hard to explain these 3d terms.. :) If you don't get what I'm on about let me know and I'll try to find another way to explain and tell you how to adjust convergence. (maybe are not aware of this setting?)
finguide 1 Posted November 14, 2012 Thanks for your answer -=seany=-, The edges that I see are transparent, so I don't think that it's caused by bad convergence settings. I'm not sure though. They also cause strange mesh on textures, probably because of the triple image... On the other hand, I played with convergence settings too and found out that the 3D effect works fine with 1% 3D depth and minimal convergence, but that makes only my gun (and in general, objects that are less than 0.5 m away from my point of view) look like an 3D object and the other parts on the screen stay 2D. The image looks kinda stupid then, for example there is really no 3D effect when I eg. fly chopper with those settings.
JwHs 1 Posted November 18, 2012 I was just thinking about getting the same 3D hardware you're using. I have CPU: i5-3570k GPU: GTX 670 OS: Win7 64-bit So I got the same pc as you have (mostly i guess). I been thinking about getting that glasses too but after reading this thread I would like to know if you have solved your problem with the glasses and if you do think that glasses works good with arma (it is a good investment). norrin 9 Posted November 18, 2012 @ finguide Hi mate, I've got a similar set-up to your's, I find that the only way you can get the default Nvidia 3D Vision drivers working reasonably for ArmA2 is to set shadows to normal, set post-processing to very low or better still disabled and then the depth to one or two bars and from there I adjust the convergence. I must say that ArmA2 is far from ideal in 3D as you are constantly cycling between 1st and 3rd person and iron sight/scope views and although the 3D settings may work really well and give you a nice effect for one view those same settings can generate all sorts of ghosting issues in the other views and the method I describe above is the only way I've found that works reasonably well in all 3 views. Also make sure you set the refresh rate in the ArmA2 config to 120 or 144 Hz. Something else that might be worth a try is to test the Tridef 3D drivers ( you can download a test version here: http://www.tridef.com/ ). These work with the nvidia 3D kit and for some games they improve the 3D image enormously. They contain profiles for quite a few games including ArmA2 and OA and they generally provide a much wider choice of tweaking options than the stock nvidia kit - for some game profiles they have also pre-disabled problematic shaders and this can fix many of the ghosting problems associated with gaming in 3D. I'm currently using the Tridef 3D drivers for ArmA2 and although the 3D effect isn't amazing its definitely there and working nicely in all the possible player views available. If you do try this software don't forget to set the depth of the default nvidia drivers to zero otherwise you're going to get some crazy 3D problems. One final thing to try is the Helix mod (available form here: http://helixmod.wikispot.org/ ). These tweaks work with the default nvidia Vision drivers and once again can improve the 3D image considerably. Unfortunately they don't have a profile for ArmA2 or OA but you may be able to request a fix from the mods authors.
Leon86 13 Posted November 19, 2012 Arma uses the gun model to aim with, nvidia 3d creates the 3d effect by rendering 2 images, one slightly to the left, one slightly to the right, so that's why ads doesnt work. Maybe there's an option to keep the right eye view on the standard position and just moving the pic for the left eye, but you'll have to dig into settings in the nvidia driver. Or dont use ads at all, just the floating green stuff or the nvidia driver aim thingy.
