Search is your friend. This thread seems to indicate that using something like Driver Sweeper to clean all old drivers from your system than reinstalling the latest ones might be something to consider.

Display Adapter is in fact your graphic card. So please post specs of your PC so we at least have a slight chance to help you.

I meant to say will it be a problem if some drivers/ motherboard software is downloaded to the C: drive and some to the E: drive since i changed E: to my default through regedit?

I will check for direct x 9 thanks

Why would you ever do that?

I was told i could do that so programs would automatically download to that hard drive instead of my ssd. That way i would only have my OS on my ssd to make it faster. Some programs wont let me choose where i wantvthem stored and i wanted them to go to E: drive. Like i said im learning, maybe i should change back to c:

So i downloaded directx 9c but it didnt fix my problem. Is direct x a program i must open and run? Or does it run on its own in the background? Because i cant find it after downloading.

Also i switched back to internal graphics card and games work.

Msi live update5 gives me a message "yoy are not using the first bios ROM. Msi strongly recommends you to update your bios via msi live update"

I try to use msi live but it does nothing

You have to run the installer after download. DirectX are system programs that are used by software (mostly games) and manage the communication between the software and the hardware (graphics, sound, joysticks etc.). So after installing it you wont have a icon to start it, it will be loaded automatically when Windows launches.

About the other issues, i strongly recommend you look for someone to help you, either a friend with the required knowledge or a PC shop you trust. It is next to impossible to help you through a forum because we don't know your exact system and errors it might have. A person at your location will be able to check several things in no time, hopefully, and fix the issues.

"Display adapter does not support formate D24S8 for X8R8G8B8"

This error usually means that the Graphic adapter is too old and doesn't support DirectX 9 Features. In your case, the Adapter is well capable of DX9, even DX11. So it's not the card itself, this breaks it down to either the driver or the DirectX itself. Actually i would bet on the missing DirectX 9, as you say you downloaded it but you didn't said you also installed it.

Wow your messed up.Your just asking and getting trouble. Your Browser has a option to choose a default DL location.

To DL to a different Drive just set the program that DLs to DL to the drive you want. . Also the Game runs much better on a SSD and wont fill your SSD up.( it could if you get every Mod/island).

I did install directx aftet loading it, just thought there would be an icon, so its not that.

I undid the regedit change.

Im certain its a driver prob with the card. When i try to download the driver from the provided disk , it says that it failed. Not sure why or what to do

Have you tried the msi site for driver downloads if the disc doesn't work, not sure which driver you need or if indeed its here, but it may be a place to start searching..:) link below...may be a start!

I already pointed to the latest drivers here. Although everyone is free to use Graphic card manufacturers drivers, i recommend to use the drivers provided by the GPU manufacturer, which usually is AMD or nVidia. Those are generally newer than Cards manufacturers driver.

Yes, most card manufacturers are extremely reluctant upgrading the information on their website. Prefer to stick with the old stuff. Despite that new drivers can really help solving issues. I'd like to reccommend a much newer DirectX download though, since it also updates more runtimes than the DX9 one, it can be found here.

I remember when I first installed ArmA 2 a couple of years ago. Had a similar error, DirectX seemed to be the problem, because errors ceased to exist after installing the newest runtimes. If it doesn't solve the problem, those drivers may be able to help out. Try to stick with the WHQL releases since they are more extensively tested. Had some issues when upgrading to Windows 8 64BIT. The newest BETA drivers resulted in no screen input here, had to reset everything using safemode. Anyhow, It's quite likely the End User Runtimes will solve the problems, and if not the drivers.

If these don't work you can consider resetting your computer. It's kind of a radical way to solve the problem, but it does get rid of all the old stuff clogging up your PC, which is why I do it at least once a year.

Anyway, good luck with it

Quite right, but I was assuming he may have tried that, I stopped at 12.1 amd drivers for my 5850 2gb, performance was/is great, so didn’t want to risk any further along. AMD don’t always improve, they can go backwards, well in my experience with them over the years they can.

I thought maybe a start to build upon..

Yes and no to that I feel.

Yes, if like the op your pc is not performing as it should, after first running a few avenues.

No, if your pc is running great already, my luck would be, reset and the whole thing turns out wrong..:butbut:;)

The best advice in this situation, IMHO, would be to find a friend or family member, maybe even a PC Shop to assist. Help over a forum is always slow by it's nature. Of course we (everyone in this forum) always try our best but we're always limited somehow on how much we can help. But we surely will continue. ;)
