Chinook, some changes. Please, this has to be done!

I know you don't reply to many "suggestions" posts, but hear me out on this one. It's about the Chinook. I was watching this program today on discovery channel about Chinooks stationed in Bosnia. It was very interesting to see, but one thing caught my eye, they said that a chinook has 4 crew members, a gunner, a pilot, a crewchief (I think it acts sorta like a commander?) and a navigator. Why is it that the Chinook in Operation Flashpoint only has two crewmembers? Oh, and another thing I noticed was that hey said that a chinook was outfitted with a 7.76mm Minigun. I think that the M2 .50 is quite rediculous on the Chinook. Please, if only the .50 could be replaced by a minigun I would be happy. I know it would be very hard to make more crew stations, but atleast take note of this, and talking about minigun outfits, doesn't a blackhawk have a minigun instead of that M2 .50 too?

In Vietnam, this is how the 'chain of command' is broken down in a Huey ship.

Aircraft Commander=Pilot

Pilot=Co-pilot

Crew Chief=Door Gunner

Door Gunner=Door Gunner

The aircraft commander (AC) calls all the shots, he made all the decisions on what the aircraft will do and how it's done, usually because he's flying it.

The co-pilot was there usually to watch and learn, and to keep an eye out for LZs, incoming fire, instruments, etc.  Once a co-pilot flown sufficent number of missions, he then graduates and becomes an aircraft commander.

Crew Chief's main job is to make sure the aircraft is air-worthy.  He inspects the aircraft prior to take-off, checks all the oil, fuel, ammo, weapons, etc, and reports to the AC any hits that were taken from a mission.  The AC might call all the shots, but that aircraft was the crew chief's baby.

The door gunner more or less was just along for the ride, but he also helped the crew chief pre-flight the bird as well as check it over for hits, clean the weapons, etc.

Now in OFP, I'd make the Chinook and the Blackhawk something like this:

COMMANDER=Pilot

DRIVER=Co-Pilot

GUNNER=Crew Chief/Door Gunner

GUNNER=Door Gunner

Yes I know there can't be more than one weaponn firing on any vehicle.  The MH-47E special operations Chinook has two side window .50cal guns and a rear ramp door gunner with M-60.    I think first we got to get rid of this one weapon limitation before we go adding more weapons to helicoptors.  Anyway, the Chinook is such a big fat flying target, it should have gunship air cover wherever it goes, cause it's makes for such a juicy target.

I really shouldn't worry about those minor facts. Have you seen how fast the b*stard will fly? It can out run a Hind!

Something to do with the two rotors on the model? It seems to have the performance of two helo's.

Actually, I didn't mean adding another gun, I ment that the .50 should be replaced by a 7.62mm minigun. That's how it is in RL, and yes, the speed has to be adjusted (although in RL it goes around 300).

In V1.30, the Chinook has slowed down quite a bit. If it were to be completely realistic, it wouldn't be able to go faster than 170 knots IAS, which translates into 314 km/h. Cruise is about 140/259.

I still think the Chinook should have a 7.62mm Minigun, just for the good looks and the Blackhawk should have an M-60. Don't you guys agree?

I agree with you there Redstorm on this one.

Also I think we should add a co-pilot. But as a co-pilot the typical role would suck. Wouldn't it piss you off joining a multiplayer game only to be stuck in the role of a co-pilot and just sit there till either the game ends or you get shot down? I suggest making the co-pilot like a commander as in the tanks.
