Vanilla Campaigns - known problems/bugs?

Recommended Posts

After hours on Freedom Fighters, I found that the enemy barracks had spawned on top of the Elektrozavodsk stronghold/guard post thing. Eleven satchels couldn't destroy it. At this point, I decided to give up.

However, I have completed all of Harvest Red and every single other scenario. I was defeated by a bug, so it really annoys me that I haven't got a 'completed' mark for this mission.

Is there any cheat to make the green 'completed' mark appear?

Yes, I'm a dirty cheat and an obsessive. But I've spent about twelve hours on Freedom Fighters and I'm not trying it again.

Thanks for any help!

Be adviced that there will not be any console window or similar so you have to type endmission blindly.

I tried the endmission cheat, but it doesn't mark the mission as complete, unfortunately.

Now I've slept on it, I'm not quite so bothered though. Having struggled that far through the mission to find it unwinnable was horrific, but I suppose I can let my completionist streak rest.

If mission is difficult/buggy but possible, I will struggle through it for hours, but if it's impossible... I've found an odd kind of peace!

Thanks for your help though!

I've just completed Harvest Red and the single player scenarios (except for Freedom Fighters, in which a bug made the enemy base indestructable).

First let me say - I LOVED a lot of it. A fantastic approach to an FPS war game campaign. I liked unraveling the politics/sectarian tension in Chernarus and the civilian interaction.

However, a lot of the game (nearly every mission later on) was almost unplayably buggy, to the point where I may have to dedicate a day or two to an hour-and-a-half-long mission.

I want to play the DLC and Operation Arrowhead's singleplayer, but I'm afraid of the stress of repeating a mission several times due to glitches and bugs.

So, how buggy are they? Did most of the problems get ironed out, or should I stick to the multiplayer/fan made scenarios?

(I'm still a huge fan of the multiplayer!)

I found the DLC campaigns (BAF and PMC) to be a little less buggy than the main campaign. It's been a while since I played them, but I don't recall there being anything game breaking in Crimson Lance (BAF campaign). There was an issue in the PMC campaign where if you were the only person to survive the first mission, the helicopter did not trigger and basically you were stuck without a lift.

Generally speaking there are so many community made campaigns out there, that they are much more worthwhile playing. They tend to be supported more as well, so bugs generally get fixed. A word of advice though, before reporting a bug with a mission or campaign, make sure you are only running the addons that the mission/campaign maker suggests. I would say that nine times out of ten a mission bug is actually an addon conflict.

Having said this, once you have completed a mission, try and play it again with some of the excellent AI mods available (ASR_AI, TPWC AI Supression are a couple of good examples). Often this completely changes the mission and makes them much more challenging. Remember though, as I said before sometimes they can have unexpected results if the mission maker did not have them in mind! Also, if you have played a mission, try upping the skills level to veteran or expert and play them again!

There is no question that OA and the DLC are less buggy than A2. Rest assured that if you have made it through all of A2 and are still happy, you will be ecstatic about OA and the DLC. Heed Jedra's warning to never use mods/addons while playing your first run-through of all official BIS campaigns and scenarios.

Worst issues I have found in the DLC that haven't been fixed:

https://dev-heaven.net/issues/24572

https://dev-heaven.net/issues/40340

Those issues are relatively minor, and can be overcome without the ENDMISSION cheat, especially if you are aware of them beforehand.

Many people have had trouble with the first PMC campaign mission, although I did not:

Freedom Fighters is completely broken, and should be avoided at all costs:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?137287-Freedom-Fighters-AI-repsawn-at-HQ-bug-still-active

However, although I have never received a debriefing screen for Freedom Fighters, the donekey (green marker in mission list) did trigger for me at some point! :)

Cool, thanks Jedra!

I'll steer clear of Operation Arrowhead, since you only mentioned the DLC as being less buggy. I've been most wanting to play PMC/BAF anyway though (and a bug on the very first level isn't so bad... It's when they pile up towards the end of a campaign).

I don't play with any addons normally, but I'll bear your advice regarding them in mind. Thanks!

EDIT:

I didn't see your post, OMAC. Thanks to you too!

"Rest assured that if you have made it through all of A2 and are still happy, you will be ecstatic about OA and the DLC."

Hah, I'm not sure about 'still happy' - it's taken about 12hours of attempts for 1hour of final game time for these last number of missions. But I still want to play, albeit without the game-breaking bugs!

I'm going to give singleplayer a break for a couple of days, but I'm more confident that I can return to it now. Freedomfighters (and the few missions before that and the last few of campaign) really put me off.

Also waiting for ACR to make it to Steam (at least the underwater civilian bug is kept at bay for now!). Thanks for the tips.

Note: All existing DLCs require Operation Arrowhead. You can't install them without it.

I would strongly suggest NOT avoiding OA, as it is not that buggy (as of 1.62), loads of fun, and is required for the DLC as MadDogX wrote. Buy it NOW if you haven't already!!!!! Wait until you play Hike In The Hills, Laser Show, Little Bird, Steel Panthers, Jackal, One Shot One Kill, etc., etc., etc., etc. Totally KICK ASS!

As a shameless plug, if you buy OA, you can also play my awesome missions (;)):

I've already got it for the multiplayer stuff - I just meant avoiding the campaign/scenarios. I can get dangerously obsessive about completing things (I'm still spending far too much time thinking up ways to complete freedom fighters... I NEED to forget about it), so I just didn't want to get involved in a war against bugs again.

I'll check it out - and your stuff!
