Where to install Addons?

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I've got a question concerning addons and mods.. I still don't know, how the addon system really works.

Don't understand me wrong, i'm playing ACE, MSO etc without problems, but, is it necessary to regard the advises of the mod/addon-maker?

Example: The BW-Mod should be put into the Arma2-Folder. That's written in the readme and on the download-pages, too.

But, when I load the mod with the Six-Updater, it will be installed in the Arma2 OA Directory. It's still downloading, but I guess that it will work..(?)

So, is it recommended to install the whole stuff into just the Arma2 OA Folder? (C:\User isn't possible btw: Not enough space ;))

Hi,

All addon and mods need to be installed into the Arma2 directory.

Be it an arma2 addon or mod, or an OA one, your game be it Arma2 or OA will load the respective mod accordingly provided its launched with either a shortcut,

a launcher, or another method such as SU.

If you have for example an OA mod your trying to run in Arma2 then it wont work and vice versa.

If you have an addon or mod that works in both Arma2 and OA then you you can launch either Arma2 only or Arma2CO

which is Arma2 +OA which is the expansion to Arma2.

So basically the addons and mods are based on what game your going to play it with and what it was made for so either

Arma2, or OA, or both as in Combined Ops -(Arma2+OA).

Hm, but why does it also work when I put the files into Arma2 OA? ACE, for example, is completely in this directory..

There are also Mods/Addons that have to be installed into OA, not?

(I'm using combined operations btw)

As far as i understand all mods need to be installed into the Arma2 directory, always worked for me and my compilation mod.

I dont have an OA directory, you mean the expansion folder in the Arma2 directory?

ah, i think i understand now (more or less..)

The point is, that there are different concepts of installing the arma stuff.

You can merge both products or you can install them in seperate folders. Last one would be combined operations.

Seems that you're using the first variant and me the second..(?)

Assumed, that combined operations differs from the other concept, is it then possible to install all addons mods in Arma2 OA or just some or none!?

Guess this would be the question..

Always install Addons and Mods into an extra folder; never into ArmA2\Addons!

Combined Operations is just ArmA2 and Operation Arrowhead installed in the same folder as you said. It's no different concept at all.

If you create a folder called "myaddons" and install your addons in there, you can load this folder in ArmA2 / OA Standalone as well as in CO. You only need to make sure that you don't run Addons for OA with A2 Standalone (or vice versa).

Operation Arrowhead will detect addons in a custom addons folder, which can be enabled in the game using the expansions menu (if you do not use the -mod= command line switch). If you're running combined ops, I think the Operation Arrowhead folder is the best folder for your custom addons ie. \ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\myaddons\addons. Some addons may not play well with others so in that case I would have a new folder for each mod, such as ACE, CWR2, or what have you. Then you can control the presence of these mods independently.

thanks men, thats what i wanted to hear ;)

i think it'll be "mostly" possible to move my addons from arma2 into the OA folder... the only thing to remember would be the keys.. but i guess they'd even work, when i keep them in the arma2 folder. (what i don't intend anyway)

Just sort your folder by 'date modified'. The custom ones should be at the top.
