Screen Tearing whilst using TrackIR

Recommended Posts

Decided to have a fly around in a jet today.

First thing I noticed was screen tearing whenever I looked up. Even on the ground, looking up caused horrible screen tearing where half the screen was looking straight forward and the other half was looking where I was actually looking.

When I disabled TrackIR and looked around using ALT+Mouse, this tearing didn't occur.

When I enabled V-Sync, it did not occur.

When I tried to use Bandicam to capture it, it stopped and captured normally.

When I tried to take screenshots during the issue with Bandicam, the error did not show up.

Short of taking a screenshot with a camera and posting that I can't show the error.

I have been playing a lot of DayZ and this error has not occured whilst driving ground based vehicles, but it did occur whilst in the jet on the ground in vanilla ARMA 2.

I am currently running Beta 1.62.95417.

I have previously flown around in jets with no issues. I believe I was playing 1.62 release patch the last time I had no issues. I never had this issue with 1.60 either.

This may be a beta 95417 specific issue and I will test regular 1.62 later today.

My system specs (which I doubt will be an issue seeing as I've been running this game on this system for ages):

i5-750 (2.66 Ghz Quadcore)

GTX560 Super Overclock (factory overclocked to 900 Mhz)

4 GB DDR1333 RAM

Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme

2 spinners and an SSD.

V-sync is there to stop you going above 60fps, most monitors are 60hz, so with v-sync on there should be no problems. Seems like your moving with trackIR faster than your monitor can handle, so putting v-sync on and leaving it on would probably be preferable.

I play with v-sync disabled and a 60hz monitor but don’t use trackIR, I don’t get really noticeable screen tearing, but it can if fps is high and I move around very quickly. Best either buy a 120hz monitor or keep v-sync on whilst using your trackIR.

vsync is there to eliminate screen tearing. if you do not run vsync you have tearing, you might not notice it much but it's there.

not sure why trackir would cause tearing, but tearing is most noticable if your screen framerate is a multiple of game framerate, maybe trackir causes some kind of frame limiting.

I used to get this, I mentioned it in the TIR forums and IIRC, it was to do with vsync.

The tearing would take the appearance of bands of the screen would appear to be sky yet others would be normal looking ahead view. I tried to fraps it but whne fraps started recording, it sropped happening.
