[DayZ] Mini lag related to CPU Cores

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

i would like to ask the Forums about solutions of my problem.

I noticed recently ( Friday, 13th - beta 94945) that my Arma tends to have mini lags. ( 2-5 sec )

When having a look on the CPU Load in Task Manager, i could see the CPU load on the first core, arma is being run at, dropped to about zero

and another core load started going up.

A few seconds later, second core's load spike dropped again and appears on the first core as it was before.

That are the moments i have the lag, game is freezing completely for a while. So i hope there is a relation between lag and cpu core load spikes.

I did not have this issue before i reinstalled* Arma2 & ArmaOA on Friday.

-> incl. complete wipe of registry and using steam for installation.

I would like to provide footage of the task manager cpu load tab having the spike jump cores, but for now, take my word that the timing fits the laggy moments.

edit: k53ph.jpg

-----------------

CPU: Phenom II x6 clocked to 3.4 GHz

OS: Win7

GPU: 560ti

Game Video Settings:

VideoMemory: Default

Resoultion 1920x1080

No Postprocessing

Reproduced lag at both maxed and min. of the other Video options. excluding shadow.

--------

edit: -cpucount=6 -exthreads=7

both introduced one at a time until mini lag occured, then together and had same results. :(

--------

Arma patch level: same effect for 9876 and 94945

Anything else i can provide just reply, i will monitor this thread.

I'm not an expert on AMD by all means but you might want to play about with the following startup parameters:

-cpuCount=<number> - probably 6 in your case

-exThreads=<number> - 01,3,5 or 7 (not sure for a hex core)

-maxMem=<number> - assuming you've got over 2GB RAM then set this to 2047

See this page for further info:

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters

Remember to only change one parameter at a time when testing. You might want to disable DayZ for the testing (to eliminate it as a variable) and use the Arma benchmarks included in the game to check FPS as well as stutters.

Good luck! :)

Well, check if the problem still exists without DayZ or any other Mod loaded. Should be always the first step before even asking here for help.

Hello again,

thanks for your advice, i have tested with startup parameters each at a time, then combined and then Arma2OA without having DayZ loaded.

Tested scenarios were on Chernarus: Superpowers and Armory.

I also have footage of the cpu load spike jumping cores although i set affinity to only 1 core for a few of the tests.

I have been reading these forums since May to optimize performance, and i still am not sure if arma in the meantime got patched to that level that it auto detects Multiple Cores and adjusts threads.. or if it still is necessary to use the parameters.

Did you add arma to the antivirus trusted list?

is arma using more than 2gb ram at this moment? this could trigger paging and cause lags

Are you guys only getting this Online, or does it happen offline too (eg in the editor or SinglePlayer scenario)?

If it is Online, do you ever see a "Yellow Chain" icon appear briefly after the lag/spike has passed?

I am having a similar problem, but it is only online. I am pretty sure it is being caused by BattlEye.
