Really stupid newbie question

Recommended Posts

in several addons there is a config.cpp file in the zip, along with the readme and the .pbo file. the readme's only say where to put the .pbo file, so wheres teh config file go? with the .pbo file (which is almost always in addons as everyone knows)?

and thanks for living with my ignorance.

1st off, there are no stupid question, just stupid answers.

2nd, if there is a config file, and the read me dosent say anything about it dont do anything with it. There are only a few addons, like satchels, that require a new config file. Usually, if there is a config file in the download, it is not needed.

What addon specificly are you talking about.

Some authors decide to bundle a configg.cpp in the same .zip so you can see what the config looks like - it doesn't do anything and you don't need to do anything with it for the addon to work, its just like making the .cpp open-source. Just put the .pbo addon into the Addons folder and the addon will work fine. In terms of actual use, the extra .cpp is as vital to making the addon run in game as the readme!

the config outside the .pbo is actually a requirement (along with the pictures and a readme) of the ofpec addon depot, it allows them to make sure that all the classes are tagged(ITA and SNI i think they are in those two) this makes it so that if two people make an m249 and both call it m249 then the addons will conflict and strange things will happen or it just wont work at all, so ofpec decided to put this in to help the people downloading the addon, anyway thats why its there smile.gif

All you have to worry about is the .pbo file.

Put that in your 'Addons' folder and you're off.

Some add-ons want to be submitted at ofpec, and ofpec asks you to put a config.cpp of the addon in the zip.

It's useless, just to let people see your .cpp
