Hello Killy

Real weapon sounds

Recommended Posts

Hey all I've been wondering about this for ever since I can remember games & also movies. Why dont most game designers use realistic gun\weapon sounds?Operation flashpoint seems to have the most realistic sounds I've heard in a game though. But I find it annoying that most games dont. How hard could it be to get a high quality microphone and put it next to or on the gun or whatever the best way to record it is and record the exact sound a specific gun makes? How expensive could that be?They could go to any shooting range all across the land, why dont they?I've just grown weiry of these "hollywood" sound effects and would like realism instead.Just something I had to share.

there's been a lot of ppl talking about better sounds too.

so far, there has been Satchel's sound pack addon, which is unofficial and causes a messge to go out during MP that implies that the user is using modified config.

hopefully BIS uses better sound in expansion pack

welcome to the forum Hello Killy, and congtas to your first post. you posted in right section. smile.gif

Hello

I dont know if you will find this sounds good for you, but they are the one i use , i post the link to those sounds  in another topic in the ADDON section (and i tried to describe there +/- user friendly how to install it, it is simple but for beginner i am not sure) :

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....8;st=10

If found them in a french site here

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/tireurdelite/fiche_fulcrum_pack_01.htm

They are inside a pack , in the pack there are 4 missions and the sounds replacement itself.

I dont test the mission, but the sounds works perfectly, there is no bug as satchel sounds, because it is just a sound.pbo to put in the place of the original OFP sound.pbo.

All the OFP sounds are different with that pack, and if i use them it is because i find them excellent for my games and much better than the default one.

I dont like really Satchel sounds, but i recognize that he made an impressive job by adding new kind of sounds in ofp (i mean for category of sounds that doesnt exist in default OFP) but with the modifications of config file , you can have bugs.

And with the sounds i advice you, there is no bug (and they are better in my opinion)

Its really hard to say why they dont have the exact sounds. Maybe its cause they dont have the time to go out and record it. I doubt the Military would let them into a base and let them record shots.

I too hope for better sounds in resistance. All i ask is the M16 to not sound like a freaking POP GUN! Thats probably the worst one out of all the guns.

PS: I would also like to welcome you to the forums Hello Killy. Hope it provides you with good laughs/fun/ideas/helpful information.

i think it's something to do with copyright. blowing up a bomb just to get the realistic exploding sound is not a reasonable undertaking, therefore they have all these sound effect files which are cheap or even free and were probably made a long time ago in a galaxy far far away tounge.gif . it's kind of funny, if you see a car bump into an object in the movies you will sometimes hear the ofp sound fx. biggrin.gif

For the person who started this thread, just download Satchel's sound pack and all your worries will be over.

I'm not sure, but doesn't a real M16 sound exactly like the AK74 in OFP? Something I've noticed. It seems to sound a lot more like a "pop" then the noise for it in game.

I can't recall exactly but I think you use the install program to get the files in the right places, and from then on you just double click either of the shortcuts and it will switch the sounds to the one you selected. A brief Dos window will flash up when you double click on the batch icons. Run OFP and it should have worked.

Note: this worked for me when I used Win98 but since upgrading to XP Pro it doesn't anymore. Basically all you need to do is put the pbo file in the OFP/Addons folder and put the cpp file in the OFP/BIN folder. Then delete the existing config.bin file (I'd back it up and save it somewhere else first).

And there you go - Satchel's Supreme Sounds. smile.gif
