What did you set up on the server? Is everyone updated to the latest patch and is battleye being used/updated? Please be more specific on what your loading(mods etc).

Latest Patch, Battleeye is being used at latest update (tried without aswell) Tried with SP Coop server, domination but they still get "Connection Failed".

Open TCP too

Already done did that, still nothing. Imo portforward should be correctly done when atleast 3+ players can connect to the server.

Firewalls?

At the server machine there is no firewall active.

What about for the people connecting? They also need to open the ports, either disable or configure their firewalls correctly etc. etc.

Some of them don't have ports open and can still connect to other servers, could this still be the problem?

Sure, it's possible that their router isn't blocking the ports so they don't need to manually open them whereas the others do.

Yeah but if they can join other servers they should be able to connect to mine, Right?

Get your friends to check their RPT file and see what error is being returned. Does it show them trying to connect in the server or not?

Not necessary, if those servers use other ports than yours. Very common with several servers on same box/system, or just to be "different".

I got the same problem with one friend. He cannot connect my server or that from another friend of mine. And the other way around we cannot connect to his server.

But he can connect to another random server. I tried to figure it out with port forwarding, turned firewall on and off. I tried any possible suggested thing what I could find but he does not get a connection.

What I have found out is that in his RPT file, that there is nothing traceable to see if het actually connected.

Please help!

Thanks in advance

Hello guys!

I am with Dyllie13 here, I just want to give some more details on the situation we are having here.

I can always play with Dyllie13 hosting and vice versa with different games on Hamachi, Tunngle or just the regular Internet Server.

But we have another friend that bought ARMA2 specifically to play with us and join our games. <- This here doesn't work.

It didn't work on Doom 3 CooP mod and it doesn't work with ArmA2.

While my friend and I know the how-to's in order to achieve something of this technical we just can't put our fingers on this one.

To clarify:

- I can always connect to Dyllie13's servers

- Our other friend cannot

- We are all living in The Netherlands, even in the same city.

- All same providers I believe.

- Our friend can join a public server and is able to see/communicate with us within that server

- He can see our server but cannot join, "Connection failed" - error

Things we did:

- We updated his Battleye

- We port forwarded the needed ports for ARMA2

- Turned off firewall and Anti-virus(some freeware anti-virus program which I still think is causing the issue even when turned off)

- Tried connecting to the friend's server

I really think it's a router related problem or the anti-virus may be the cause.

But if the routers ports are forwarded it should cause no problems, right?

So if somebody can shed some light on this one as we cannot find anything that could be the possible solution, we would be very thankful.

@Dyllie there should certainly be some information in your friends RPT that shows him trying to connect to a server.

What error message/s are you both getting?

It may not show up in your game as he tries to connect but I'm almost certain that it MUST be in his RPT file.

Here is the RPT file, hope it works this way. Copying did not work out so well :p

Getting the same issue. Can remote connect to our server but some players can't connect via the gamespy browser. Driving me nuts.

Can players connect by entering from the Game Browser by selecting "Remote" and typing in your servers IP address?

Does your server have more than one IP address? If this is so, start your dedicated server with the "IP=" parameter. Try this anyway.

Also try several edit variations for your arma2.cfg file. You can also delete this file and try the server without it.

P.S: Next time you provide arma2OA.rpt, delete it, then do your testing so there is less in the log file. Also load with "-world=empty", as there is lot of junk in there I assume comes from loading the intro missions?

Hey freeborne,

I'm with @Dyllie13 on this problem.

I can connect to his server without a problem. It's just our other friend who can't connect and this isn't only the problem with ArmA2 but also with other games.

Me and @dyllie13 Can play everygame together but our other friend can never join our game. That is our problem. We will post a clean .RPT File ASAP maybe there could be some information. I don't think it's the problem of the server he his hosting.

thank you very much for the given advice, we will try some of em.

Like Freeborne said it would be much easier to see the issue if you delete the RPT file and then get a copy STRAIGHT away after failing to connect. It will cut down on so much of the mess. I will continue to have a look through the file you supplied though.

EDIT:

Just a quick idea are any of you using the beta versions? I would suggest you all install the latest beta patch from here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

The main error your friend is getting is, as I thought it would be, is a NAT Negotiation error. NAT Negotiation failed (NNThink - result 3).

Main causes are Firewalls so check firewall settings and get your friend to try with no firewall on.

I have seen this caused by conflicting beta versions at one stage though.

this isn't only the problem with ArmA2 but also with other games.

I thought I misunderstood this at first, but now you clarified it, THIS is all that matters.

Why are we wasting time trying to help you configure ARMA2 server if the problem exists in every other game?

Person 1 cannot communicate with Person 2, in any game. That sounds like a routing issue, not game related.

The guy having issues should call up his ISP and ask for technical support. It could be port-forwarding issues, NAT, or routing tables (outside of his control). Probably the easiest thing to try would be to plug his internet modem directly into his computer, disable all firewall software, and try to join. This would eliminate port-forwarding or NAT issues.

Well person 1 can play on normal servers so the ports that the game uses are okay.

but if he tries to connect to our private server it fails.

We thought maybe in this forum the problem could be fixed with you guys giving some advice.

We will try things out tonight and report with an RPT file. I am also convinced it may be a router problem, but that could be fixed with port forwarding or such, right?

Anyway, I greatly appreciate the input you guys have given!

Have a great day!

Playing on a dedicated server is massively different to playing client to client.

I have had this issue before myself when trying to play on dedicated servers and it was my router at fault.

As there are many games you cant play together the problem is the communication between your routers. They don't like the traffic coming from one another.

As me and Freborne have said try connecting without firewalls enabled and try placing the computer in a DMZ on the router.

start /min /wait /AFFINITY E /REALTIME Expansion\beta\arma2oaserver.exe "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion;Expansion;ca;@dayz;@bliss_1.chernarus" -name=Bliss -ip=199.19.67.231 -port=2302 -config=dayz_1.chernarus\config_XXXXXXX.cfg -cfg=dayz_1.chernarus\basic.cfg -profiles=dayz_1.chernarus -noPause -noSound -cpuCount=3 -exThreads=1 -maxMem=2047 -noCB

Many players cannot connect via the arma 2 oa server browser (it shows up they just get connection failed and nothing shows in the logs). It is almost like gamespy is telling them the wrong ip/port to try to connect! They can connect just fine by entering the ip/port directly or using dayz commander. Going nuts on this one. Anyone have any ideas?
