SquirtingSchoolGirl 0 Posted June 21, 2002 Half Life engine runs off the Quake engine though. I doubt it can handle large environments like Flashpoint can. Would't the British military want something more realistic anyway ?

RedStar 0 Posted June 21, 2002 Without starting a flamewar. British Army generals have stated before that they use N'Ireland for training troops, tactics and weapons, so why do they state that they use a game?

Guest Titanium Posted June 21, 2002 Half-Life has its own game engine. Yes it can handle large enviroments, providing you have enough room on your Hard drive. Even small maps can be big in bytes. A map maker would just have to make it that big. But CS is realistic... to a point.

Warin 0 Posted June 22, 2002 In a related story, the SAS has introduced a mysterious new tactic in their CQB training. The new tactic, wherin operatives run and jump across open spaces has quickly been dubbed 'The Bunnyhop' No one is quite sure where the tactic originated, but several members of the regiment commented off the record that 'bunnyhopping has often saved me from being woped by some damn T' Official for the Special Air Service have been unavailable for comment.... red oct 2 Posted June 22, 2002 well it seems that now everybody likes using video games to train troops. is it just me or would it really just make them weaker? how does this work exactly? so far im only thinking of sas sitting infront of a computer screen playing half life but obviously its different  than that so how do they exactly use video games? do they just project the game on a video screen and give them remote guns similar to that on a arcade? this to me sounds like its just gona make armies weaker. lets face it simulators cant predict everything, what ever happen to the good old mock towns ware troops would storm in and wooden targets would pop up? do they even take two teams and give them paint ball guns, create a type of objective for the attacking team while the defenders simply defend it? sure it may seem crude and too expensive, but its simple fact that the more money you put into training, the more that you get back. right? unless they make some star trek type giant holo-graphic room that can make holograms, i think that this is a STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPID idea. It's called 'Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System' or MILES for short. It's pretty cool, because it takes the sound of the blank firing to actually activate the laser, and they can mount them on vehicles as well. Ask USSoldier11B about how htey actually work..he's probably had hands on experience.
