Aculaud 0 Posted June 19, 2002 This afternoon, i staged a little test on desert island. The purpose of which was to choose an assault rifle i fealt comfortable with, and see how many enemy infantry i could hold off with it at once. I used the automatically generated groups provided by the group function in the editer. I chose the XMS because it has an accurate scope and its really easy to do two-shot bursts. I put three ammo crates beside me so i could top myself off if needed. I started off with two groups which was way too easy for me, They retreated once, but they came back and died soon enough. I handled three groups just fine, but four had me overwhelmed. So heres my challenge. Choose an assault rifle (Sniper weapons and explosives not allowed) that best suits you, and pit yourself against as many infantry as you think you can handle and see how many groups you can fend off at once. It can be in an environment of your choosing, and you can have as much ammo as you want. Posting screenshots is encouraged.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted June 19, 2002 for me, it's either XMS or G36. I love G36 for it's sight. XMS has just a single dot in the middle. good for pointing, but G36 has better center in scope view. you can see more and get psychologically focus on target. it seems like circle around the center crosshair makes you focus or something like that. Steyer Aug has similar system, bu I hate just an empty circle in the center.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted June 19, 2002 I dont know why, but I love the AK74SU. I just do- no explanation, it just is what it is. But for technical purposes, Id say Im the best with the Aug
Grey Fox 0 Posted June 19, 2002 I'd say the M-16/XM-177E2. I'm really good with the iron sights and have been practicing sniping with the M16 at +400m and I'm becoming good at it. Oh and the M60 and PK technically are considered "machine guns" not "assault rifles"

ralphwiggum 6 Posted June 19, 2002 just got back from testing by same method. G36 is the choice.
dayglow 2 Posted June 19, 2002 No question G36 on 3round burst all the way. I can snipe like crazy and drop a running guy easily. COLINMAN
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 19, 2002 G36. If I had to stick to 1985-era weapons, I'd take the XMS. Should somebody post a link to a mission we can all use to compare the rifles in the same environment and with a standard troop configuration? Just a thought... Guest Posted June 19, 2002 Bizon, I would say. Pretty accurate and has large mags. You can go full auto and still have a pretty good accuracy. My second choice (and first IRL) would be the G36.

You can drop a whole patrol with it and they can't find you. With any other gun after the second guy goes down everyone knows where you are. COLINMAN
Aculaud 0 Posted June 19, 2002 I really like the G36 too, but for some reason the cross hair in the middle is REALLY blurry for me. Dont know why, it was clearer when i had windows XP installed.

At 1152 and above, it is sharper
Aculaud 0 Posted June 19, 2002 Can't. 1024x768x32 is the highest mine goes. Out of curiosity, could you post a pic of how sharp it is for you?
dayglow 2 Posted June 19, 2002 Do you have a Nvidia card? If so check what your Mipmap LOD is set at. In the regular driver preference sreen you want it set to 'best image quality' and if you use a 3rd party tuner like Riva Tuner, try the slider around -1. That should clear things up for you. JAP 2 Posted June 19, 2002 XMS on large maps HK/Bizon on smaller ones. Â You can really cause havoc with the suppressed ones. Â Against AI and Human. /Edit BTW i don t know **** about weapons, but isn t the G36 a little too accurate and too little ( darn how do you say that, when you shoot "backfire" ?? ) when you shoot ? shadow 6 Posted June 19, 2002 I love the G36 in OFP but would'nt trade my G3A3 for anything in RL
PFC_Mike 2 Posted June 19, 2002 Call me weird, but I like the AUG sight. It's an excellent weapon. I was confused as to why someone eoupd pick an SMG as their favorite. They *just* *have* *no* *range*. That said, the Bizon is the blackop's dream. To all you modders out there, howabout a P90? F-ing A, that'd be awesome. LBPXC Rules! WhoCares 0 Posted June 19, 2002 For the given task the G36 for sure. However for a CTF I like to take a Bizon/HK along when I head for the enemy flag; you can kill an enemy without telling everyone where you are. It needs some communication on there side to send someone to look for you...
Guest Titanium Posted June 19, 2002 I don't have one definate of all those choices. I mean, there are some favorites, but choosing which rifle/mgun best suits you really depends on the environmetn and the predicement.
N.o.R.S.u 0 Posted June 19, 2002 AK47 with nade launcher for me, no difference between AK74 I guess but a bit more metallic sound . I would have chosen the G36 but because it kills with one shot to toe i don't really like to use it (too uber ).
