bertone 10 Posted March 24, 2012 So I felt like playing arma2 again. If I remember this correctly I need both Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead (=combined operations) to play online right? I bought Arma2 when it came out from nexway (digital download) and OA from sprocket. Now, nexway doesn't allow me to download the client anymore, so I was wondering if I can download A2Free, and upgrade it to full with the serial I already own? I have to say, all the different versions gets me easily confused, but should I buy the remaining 3 dlc's too? Would they make my MP experience any different or should I just get the LITE versions like before?
gunso 10 Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) arma 2 free - - I'm not sure but i read somewhere that it is a full version that have become free courtesy of BIS, maybe someone else can verify this. Operation Arrowhead - takistan map and vehicles latest patch for arma 2 OA - Lite texture for BAF and PMC addon BAF/PMC DLC- offical campaign and high res texture for MP, most server are using arma2 + operation arrowhead. If you have less than that you will be kicked when the server switched to a mission that require stuffs that you dont have depending on server config, some might kick you before you get in. Just download arma 2 free then install your OA. Run your game using arma 2 OA .exe Edited March 26, 2012 by gunso

robphx387 10 Posted April 8, 2012 What if I have arma2 DVD and I am looking to upgrade. I can get OA 'free' on disk (i have a gift card to best buy) and was thinking after that I would grab the other packs since I wont be playing Arma 3 for a while (wont be upgrading computers for a few years, work is unstable for me) but I'm not sure if I should get the two forces packs through steam as downloads or buy the Reinforcements DVD, whats the better way to do that? Is all the content able to be used together or can i only use british forces on BF maps and not on the other maps? sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm not that familiar with anything newer than the base game. RSF TheCapulet 59 Posted April 9, 2012 Having trouble stringing together what you're trying to say. But if you already have the retail copy of Arma 2, I'd just get arrowhead from best buy like you've planned. You can't buy the DLC packs on steam separately for a retail game, as steam forces you to own Arrowhead through steam to purchase those. You can buy arrowhead on steam, and leave the ability to buy the DLCs on steam open for later. But also keep in mind that the DLC content is provided in the arrowhead patches as low rez-low poly assets so you can continue to play with those who have the DLC, and you're really not missing much. And you're correct, BAF and PMC both require Arrowhead, as far as I'm aware.
max power 21 Posted April 9, 2012 As far as I am aware, the latest version of OA should integrate the other installs seamlessly. So, if you have ArmA 2, and you run OA, ArmA 2 should appear and be playable in OA. Same with the DLCs.
robphx387 10 Posted April 9, 2012 OK, so if I got what you are saying right then... If i buy OA and patch it I'll have everything, but the brit and PMC packs will be low-res... if I want to buy the hi res DLC i will have to either get my OA through steam and download the dlc from steam also OR buy the boxed versions of OA and reinforcements because the steam DLC only works on steam copies of OA. Either way it seems the cheaper option will be to go boxed version because of the gift card. Thanks, i really appreciate yall taking the time to answer this for me.
