dgrrr 0 Posted June 13, 2002 Since the AI can often see thru vegetation and I cannot (in single player), every tree or bush might as well have a gun behind it. They're like those one-way mirror that cops use in interrogations -- They can see you but you can't see them. Since all vegetation is like this in OpFlash, you might as well replace all those interconnecting "bush slices" with images of one-way mirrors. At least we'd know what we're dealing with. Seriously, I notice that in other games and combat sims like (gasp) Ghost Recon, they manage to make the vegetation look like... Well, like a bush. You can see THRU it. You can see thru it best up close, but far away, you can also make out bodies behind -- especially when they are firing or moving. The difference, as I see it (literally), is that in games like GR, vegetation alternates between solid and transparent areas on a very fine scale (the finest being needles) In OpFlash, the vegetation is basically big solid sheets with some intermittent holes, which you can't even use to aim thru because even if you line up your eye with a hole, when you switch to Iron Sights, the hole isn't aligned anymore. Actually I don't care about the technical side of it -- All I know is that lesser games don't have this problem. Is this even something that can be fixed in upgrades? Otherwise, let's break out the mirrors.
dayglow 2 Posted June 13, 2002 Not sure what you are asking for, but you can shoot thru bushes, so don't bother lining up with a 'hole' just shoot and hit the guy behind it. COLINMAN
dgrrr 0 Posted June 13, 2002 This thread is about SEEING thru vegetation, not SHOOTING thru it. I know I can shoot thru veg. But if I"m crawling thru the forest, and a badguy starts shooting me from behind a bush, Ican't see where he is and I"m screwed. (Bushes don't provide anywhere near that much cover in real life -- unless they totally obscure vision in both directions.)
Guest Titanium Posted June 13, 2002 I still don't really understand what you are getting at dgrr... You don't seem to be very effective here. But I think bushes in real life do give you quite a bit of cover. Especially in forests.
sgtvor 0 Posted June 13, 2002 Are you sure you've upgraded to v1.46? I seem to have great success hiding from the AI while in bushes. If they see you BEFORE you duck behind a bush, then yes, they'll fire on the bush and most likely hit you, just like I do when they run behind bushes. Earlier versions of the game had notable problems in this area however.
swooper 0 Posted June 13, 2002 I like the bushes the way it is nothing is more fun then trying to find where the sniper is or you being the sniper and getting shot at. I have no trouble seeing "thru" bushes its much more fun it also gives you a place to hide
Hilandor 1 Posted June 13, 2002 indeed if someone hides behind a bush are u meant to see them i think not
theavonlady 2 Posted June 13, 2002 I have no problems hiding behind bushes. I'm running OFP 1.46 with SUPER AI disabled.
ALDEGA 0 Posted June 13, 2002 "indeed if someone hides behind a bush are u meant to see them i think not " The point is that when there is vegation between you and an enemy Ai, that it can see you, as if the bush weren't there, which is obviously incorrect and annoying (if the Ai kills you ). Ruud van Nistelrooy 0 Posted June 13, 2002 i know i've been under fire, ran under a bush, and they've kept shooting at me - with drastically reduced accuracy. Then after a bit they stop, perhaps thinking they've got lucky and waxed you. I have sometimes had problems like you mention, but not often. I haven't in the opf campaigns, but in custom missions. maybe its a map editor thing
WKK Gimbal 0 Posted June 13, 2002 Bushes are nice. If boiled for about 1-2 hours they will become quite moist and the remaining liquid makes up a great nutritious soup. Leaves can be used for decoration before serving.
