naizarak 4 Posted February 20, 2012 Hello everyone, I've been playing Arma II free a lot recently, but the multiplayer aspect is non-existent. There's hardly any active servers and the ones with any players are sandboxes. So before I actually buy anything, I'd just like to know if either of these games has an active population - hopefully playing missions and not sandbox games. Also at this point, would I be better off buying Arma II or OA? Thanks in advance for any help.
metalcraze 290 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) ArmA, just like any other game that requires teamwork with objectives is not 'come-as-you-please' for all stuff but sandbox so keep that in mind. Most missions are played by clans or dedicated communities (the difference is that in most cases you need to join the former and won't need to with the latter but clan experience is better due to same people playing together in one team). What that means is that most missions are played at set times and not randomly. The community is active more than enough just not 24/7. But having one or two communities to play with is more than enough since in their majority they also make new missions each week. If you can live with that price for very heavy team- and objective-oriented missions - then by all means buy it. You can combine OA with ArmA2 Free to play on Combined Ops servers (which are a majority) but if you want better textures (and original SP missions) - you'll have to buy ArmA2 as well. With BIS sale for both games still being on at Sprocket it's a no brainer really. Here's an example of a good community that you can play with: http://ciahome.net/ They also make good missions (but most are small specops teams oriented) Also it's almost a decade old which should hint you at ArmA "staying power" for teamplayers Edited February 20, 2012 by metalcraze
naizarak 4 Posted February 20, 2012 Oh wow thanks for that link. I was looking to buy from Steam for $20 each, but got both for only $13 thanks to you. At this price I don't even care about MP, I can just do SP and editor missions to my heart's content. Thanks again.
