nierop 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Hi all, Sone time ago I had a PIII 600 MHz and a Geforce vidcard. As you all would say these specs are barely sufficient to run OFP. And you are right! Frame rates (measured using Fraps) were around 10 fps. The only way to speed this up was to enter scope view when in possession of a sniper rifle (+- 25 fps). As reasoned, this could be attributed to less objects in view, so less graphical processing power required. Now, my problem. At the moment I have a AMD Athlon XP 1500+ and ATI Radeon 8500LE 64 Mb system that runs Windows XP. I do not play as a sniper much, but now I am finally playing Red Hammer (Resistance is comming soon...) I had to play as a spetsnatz sniper. With this system I get around 40 fps during when in normal view. When I now enter the scope view the frame rate drops to 7 fps. It is totally unplayable! When I leave the scope view the fps is suddenly back to 40 again. It is therefore a problem restricted to scope view. Has anyone experienced such a problem? Or better, has anyone a clue how to solve this prob? Help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, i tried the latest official and leaked drivers for my vid card (6071 official and 6093 leaked). No difference. Bye and happy hunting!
theavonlady 2 Posted June 12, 2002 What version of OFP is this?
nierop 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Hi miss Avon, I have updated to the 1.46 version. Was that bad...?
theavonlady 2 Posted June 12, 2002 No that's good. This sounds like an issue better handled by member Mister Frag or Aldega.
Placebo 31 Posted June 12, 2002 Unless I missed it you don't mention how much RAM you have?

No......wait............I mean.............
ALDEGA 0 Posted June 12, 2002 That's odd. I've been doing some tests regarding frame rate (on a Geforce 2 mx with 28.32 drivers), and my framerate is always higher when viewing through the sniper scope. (the more I zoom in, the higher the framerate). This is normal, since less polygons/textures have to be calculated. It might be a driver issue, dunno though. ALDEGA 0 Posted June 12, 2002 I'm sorry Avon, I just don't know the entire OFP faq by heart. Sometimes I need to look up certain things, my memory isn't perfect. So there you have it, you got me crying Are you happy now....?
Placebo 31 Posted June 12, 2002 The reason I mentioned RAM is in my old system when I only had 128mb I would get lag when zoomed with the scope or using binocs, everything else was fine, after upgrading to 512mb that all went away.
nierop 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Ha ha ha, common guys (or rather...lady and guy) don't start a fight here. If you want to fight, just start up OFP Â I have 256 Mb DDR Ram. The thing is, as you mentioned, the normal game runs smoothly. Only the sniper vision is not functioning properly. It must be a graphic card problem as looking at the sky through the scope results in an immediate rise in fps. <sigh> has anyone with an ATI Radeon 8500 comparable problems? However, i will try to borrow some aditional RAM to see whether this cleares the problem. Thanks Bye
RedRogue 0 Posted June 12, 2002 ? How do you get it to show your FPS in OFP? Do you use a 3rd party program or is there a FPS view hidden somewhere?
ALDEGA 0 Posted June 12, 2002 It's only possible with third party software.

N.o.R.S.u 0 Posted June 15, 2002 I have the same problem, but only when I use scope to look into a thick forest.
nierop 0 Posted June 16, 2002 Yep, only happens when objects are in view. Not when staring at my feet or into the sky. But those are not the most effective directions to snipe....
