TedStryker 1 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) I dont think i have ever had to go through so much bullshit just to post a damn thread and ask a question. after 3 attempts to post a message in QandA "you need to log in and activate your account." "You're already logged in and your accound is active. Start New Thread, spend 10 min explaining my situation select post message, "you need to log in and activate your account. BACK TO MY EMAIL, press the link, enter the code, "your account is already active"???? Second time. Start new thread, spend 10 min writing out agian my question, enter post message. "YOU NEED TO LOG IN AND ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT". BACK TO MY EMAIL, CLICKED THE LINK, ENTERED ACTIVATION CODE. " Your account is already active" and im logged in. WTF really? And then there's the whole "image verification" bullshit that takes about 5 min to find one i can actually read. Is this a joke? Lets see if this works... Nicholas 5 Posted February 4, 2012 Take it easy there Ted...they've just upgraded the forum to vBulletin 4 and are still working out the kinks. Relax. The image verification is used to prevent spam bots from signing up...or else this whole forum would be spam haven.
-martin- 10 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) what a pain in the assgreat, works now after 20min of BS. Delete Me Hi there Ted, As I understand from the post you made earlier (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?130904-BS&p=2101704#post2101704), you've experienced some technical difficulties when registering on our forum... Well, you know it happens; it happened to me on other forums countless times, technical problems do happen, especially because the admins are currently upgrading our forum. But come on man, we appreciate that you told us, but you need to calm down about this... If you don't have time to post, leave it for another day, PM an admin about it, let them know nicely. This way you'll just get banned, and you're cluttering this already cluttered forum. Kind regards  Edited February 4, 2012 by -Martin-
Dwarden 1125 Posted February 4, 2012 it has nothing with vB4, it was there always ... including of auto-moderation of new post by fresh users ... same with validation on register ... it's now just tighten enough to stop the usual spam daily hitting any board on web
max power 21 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) Hello, TedStryker Love the airplane films, and welcome to the forums. To respond to your posts: Firstly, the image, email, and other verification methods are to prevent forum spammers and spambots from doing their business. They are quite a large problem, and if left unchecked, the volume of this spam posts would be too much for a moderation team of any size to handle. We simply can't allow this stuff to be posted if we can prevent it. I am sorry if this represents a one-time inconvenience to you, however the effort you must put in at registration time is far less than the effort required for any user to use the forum if we were inundated with spam. Any amount of spam you are currently picturing in your mind is likely far less than the actual amount we would have without the combination of user registration, new user premoderation, and moderator intervention. That is 'what is up with this crap'. Secondly, we are actually still in the progress of migrating the forum to a new version and testing new features and playing with the layout, etc. If there is any problem with the new user registration method, we would love to hear about your experience with that in the form of a usable and sensibly worded bug report. Forum experience is important to us (the moderation team) and I'm sure also to BIS. What we can't have is angry ranting. Quite frankly, such a venom laden post really tests my ability to care what you're writing about. Lastly, regarding the amount of time it takes to respond to a post such as yours, the moderation team is not on the forum at all times. It may take a while to get an answer regardless of how important the content of your post is. This is not an online chat service. Further to that, you are lucky I am responding in such a way at all. You are new here, so I am pulling a few punches. Such rants are usually locked immediately and infractions given. To sum up: The new user registration procedure is to keep the forum clean of spam and usable to the users and administrators. Your concerns are valid and we appreciate your report. Angry ranting is not usually tolerated and future rants risk administrative action and, depending on the content of your post, your privilages to use the forum revoked. Please use this thread for future reports. Thank you, Max Power. Thread closed. Edited February 4, 2012 by Max Power
