Joe98, I fly with the xbox360 controller, both helo and fixed wing, and it seems effective enough for basic flight. You may have trouble with SA, unless u have trackIR. More advanced (flares, chaff) options require remapping ALL the buttons and thumb sticks though, which is gay. Why the hell cant i just remap the buttons. 360 controller works well otherwise.

Is it just me or does Arma 2 (Reinforcements w/arma) run better (fps and all) with the new patch? I turned up some settings like Atoc and AA and ran a few benchmarks. They seem better than before... ?

Well i dont know what the hell happened to cause the problem. I uninstalled everything arma, and uninstalled setpoint. i reinstalled arma 2 that i direct downloaded then installed setpoint. after mesing with settings on setpoint and making sure all that "permission" crap was in order, i finally got it working. then i installed the rest (reinforcements) off the cd and everything seems fine now. Like i said i dont know why the situation explained above threw my mouse software all out of whack, but if anyone has the same problem i would suggest be weary of combining direct download install with cd install containing same expansions. And if all else fails, spend 3-4 hours uninstalling and reinstalling EVERYTHING. Problem solved... i guess. BTW im using win7 64bit

I know what you mean, it gave me a good laugh still. At 700mb+ i was trying to avoid it but I think I'll do it to be safe. Thanks for the responses.

I downloaded arma 2 and oa from here. I bought "arma 2: reinforcements" on CD and installed the british and pmc. Whats strange, (and i do have keys binded with logitech's setpoint), is that keys binded within the game are not working- like button 5 for free look. im updated, ive rebooted nothing has really changed until i installed the expansions. the only buttons on my mouse that do anything anymore are lmb/rmb and scroll. All mouse buttons work outside of game ( using setpoint i assigned the "search key" to b and can hit it now and it types a b, b -see? And i can move forward and backward in web browser. Everything worked great until i installed from this cd.... Anything like this happen before, any ideas? Any suggestions on what I should do?

I downloaded arma2 and ao and think i was able to update it to 1.60. I bought today arma 2 reinforcements on CD at walmart. When i launch the game "arma 2 baf+pmc" the version says 1.60. Now it's obvious what the answer should be, but i've had problems with other games during situations like this, so i want to make sure. I'm all updated and good right? Or did the installing of an expansion possibly not updated to 1.6 by default keep the base game at 1.6 while the expansion remains not updated?

So if i understand you correctly, before i go out spending money on a new drive for the sole reason of getting rid of the "problem", i should try the RAMDisk first. I did mess with it a bit but when i looked at my RAM usage after a reboot something scared me so i uninstalled it (think it didnt leave me enough for everything else..maybe, dont remember. got 4gb). I'll pay more attention when installing and do a bit more research if i try it again. Your "like day and night" comment has peaked my interest again. Thanks man.

(Sigh)... So it's common then. I was afraid of that. I have to be honest I havnt played since, but that wont last long im sure. At least now I know what to expect, or more accurately, what not to expect.

So i stop before entering a small village. I have a 4 man team. Myself and another team member disembark leaving a driver and a gunner in the HUMMV. As I start clearing the village i want the Hummer to just move in a straight line and advance along the road to give me support. It was just straight ahead and he's on the road. I select the driver point to a spot on the middle of the road and say move here. OMG i witnessed the most pathetic absolute worst most frustrating thing watching him first drive off the road and smash into a gate, he then reverses, pauses and continues smashing through 2 sections of this gate before pausing again and doing god knows what and finally gets back on the road and speeds up to where i wanted him. All he had to do was drive in a straight line! Thank god i was not in contact. 2nd frustrating scenario: I'm assigned chopper transport in the same mission. I look for what looks to be a decent enough landing zone. It's not perfectly flat but well within the limits i would think, nothing even close to unreasonable. There are trees around but plenty of space for 2-3 helos. I use communication command, NOT in map mode, and point to the ground and say pick me up here. I swear to god and i am not exaggerating the chopper found the most dense clump of trees and attempted to land there. Of course after a few min of watching in absolute awe he crashed. Now I really do love this game and in no way am i trying to bag on it but PLEASE tell me im doing something wrong. I have ARMA 2 AO, am fully patched and use no MODS at all. Are there things i just have to realize can't be done or certain techniques im unaware of that need to be done to get things that i want to happen happen? I can still enjoy this game but that Hummer one is really most upsetting, and if i cant even get that to work for me then, well i don't know... Like i said, please tell me im doing something wrong.

I have the Logitech Wireless desktop mk700, which i love. Dont know what the model name or number of the mouse that comes with it is but you know the Middle mouse button that also allows you to scroll? Well i JUST discovered you can click the middle mouse button LEFT and RIGHT too! Perfect for lean!! It also has a search or find button that i use for Binos!! Really cool. I did have to download the latest software for configuring the mouse out of game for them all to work, but it allows you to associate mouse settings with the launch of a particular game so no having to reassign the buttons when not playing. Everything seems ok but im not sure yet of any conflicts with mouse software running and arma doing it's thing with your mouse. Also, I'm thinking of getting one of those fancy gaming mouses with like 5000 buttons. Anyone use one and what do you think? Does it work fine with arma?

I did "Edit OA's config file (something like My Documents\ArmA2\Arma2OA.cfg), find AToC=7 and change it to AToC=0" Made sure my browser was closed this time but still had 1GB running background (plan on trying the Game Booster, thx for the link) Vis: 5000 Res (both interface and 3D): 1366x768 Tex: High Vid Mem: Default AF: Normal AA: Disabled Terrain, Objects, Shadow: High HDR: Normal Post Process: Very Low 43 FPS Everything looked nice too. Although I do get some flickering when bushes and trees seem to be "loading". Any known reason for that? I like this starting point though a bit of tweeking and i think i'll find my optimal settings. Not sure what had the biggest impact on increased frame rate though. Any thoughts off hand? Thanks for the help

This thread got me curious, so i did a few benchmark tests (E08 Benchmark in Arrowhead). Nothing scientific, i actually forgot i had my browser running in the background during all 3 tests. My Comp: MSI 870U-G55 "Military Class" (cool huh!) mainboard Win7 64bit AMD PhenomII X4 955 (Quad Core) 3.2GHz 4GB RAM AMD Radeon HD 6800 2GB Nothing is overclocked System cost me about 600 (US) and change to build myself, had a power supply and case though... Dont know if it makes a diff, but i had 1GB memory used in the background from browser and such. First test everything MAX with Interface Rez of 1366x768 and 3D Rez 1705x960 (Never noticed before the diff in Interface rez and 3D rez till after 2nd test. Was default setting) and MAX distance. 18FPS Second test I left everything the same EXCEPT the max distance which i put to 4000. 21FPS Last test, during which i noticed the 3D and Interface resolutions different, I changed the 3D rez to my default monitor rez of 1366x768 (same as interface), KEPT distance at 4000 and turned SHADOWS to NORMAL. 30FPS Maybe i should have done a few more but i got bored, and wanted to PLAY! But, I came to a few of my own conclusions on how I think I'll keep my settings (always knew shadows were a killer) and I hope this helps and/or answers question for someone. BTW, i've only owned this game a week now so if anyone has any suggestions on what configuration they think would work best with my system i'd love to hear it!
